Garden Classrooms

Holy Family Academy

A grant through the partnership of the Whole Kids Foundation and Food Corps will help to expand upon the mission of Holy Family Academy. Holy Family Academy is an independent private Catholic high school with the philosophy of the school based on the dignity and value of work as necessary to live a meaningful life.

Pembroke Pines Elementary

The goal for our garden is to educate our children how to grow healthy foods and maintain a garden while enjoying the process. This hands-on experience will help them to develop patience and responsibility. Our current gardening club, The Plantiers, has 20 students from 1st to 5th grade. The students are excited to restart the garden this year. The grant will help us to expand our garden

Evans High School

The goal for this garden is to educate the youth at Evans High School to grow, transplant, and harvest plants in order to increase health literacy, while increasing access to healthy plant derived foods. Not only will this involve the garden club but other curriculum will also be included in the development. For example the science department will help with the hydroponics. The math department can assist with scaling. The marketing of the produce will enhance learning from an economical standpoint.

George Washington High School

George Washington High School will be the 5th high school at Denver Public Schools to initiate a Garden of Youth. The DPS Garden of Youth(GOY) program enables high school students with disabilities to experience themselves as active, vital participants in their community by bringing healthy, fresh food to local residents and businesses while simultaneously learning about sound nutrition and healthy lifestyles.

Abraham Lincoln

The Garden of Youth (GOY) is an internship program that connects students, especially those in special needs classrooms, with the food and land that sustains them through environmental stewardship, cultivation of plants, and integration of healthy choices into their everyday lives.

Chana High School

As a continuation high school serving 128 high-risk students, 102 of which are on the free/reduced lunch program, the main vision for our garden is to build character, relationships, and nutritional awareness with the students and surrounding community. In an effort to grow this vision, students wish to add 20 new raised beds to the existing 5,000 square foot garden. Each year, students in the Positive Behavior Support Program will be given a raised bed as a tool to develop positive behaviors and life skills.

Toltecalli High School

Toltecalli High School (THS) was founded to address issues of low academic achievement, graduation rates, and job opportunities for low-income Latino youth in south Tucson. As an integral part of a curriculum based in Latino culture, environmental sustainability, and community service, the garden shows students how their actions can make a difference and to take pride in themselves, their choices, and their community.

San Miguel High School

The main goal of the garden is to serve San Miguel High School and the local community. By nurturing plant life, the garden will also nurture friendships and promote kindness amongst students and community members. A grant from Whole Foods will allow San Miguel to address the needs of those living in the community with better access to fresh and healthy food by sharing what is grown in the garden with community members.

St. Martin de Porres Academy

St. Martin de Porres Academy instills the values of hard-work and service into all of its students. The existence of an active community gardening program is an incredible addition to those efforts, as well as curriculum enhancement. While our garden has been modest, we are currently providing the framework that will improve our past efforts, and ensure the continuing success and sustainability of the program.
