About the Program:

The Garden of Youth (GOY) is an internship program that connects students, especially those in special needs classrooms, with the food and land that sustains them through environmental stewardship, cultivation of plants, and integration of healthy choices into their everyday lives. One of the main ways GOY is able to achieve this goal year after year is through partnership with the Denver Public School (DPS) district’s Sustainability Office and its committed efforts to enable high school students with disabilities to experience themselves as active, vital participants in their community by growing food at their schools. Last year, the Garden of Youth program started a garden at Abraham Lincoln High school employing several high school students on-site to develop and manage the garden. In its second year, the Garden of Youth program at Abraham Lincoln plans to add additional raised beds, improve infrastructure, purchase garden supplies, and provide stipends for its interns.
