About the Program:

The main goal of the garden is to serve San Miguel High School and the local community. By nurturing plant life, the garden will also nurture friendships and promote kindness amongst students and community members. A grant from Whole Foods will allow San Miguel to address the needs of those living in the community with better access to fresh and healthy food by sharing what is grown in the garden with community members. The motivation for this garden comes from a desire to have an increased awareness within San Miguel and the local community in regards to providing nutrient dense food, considering that there are extremely limited options in the area for fresh and healthy food. By promoting gardening to the greater community, healthier lifestyles will become a priority especially among San Miguel students. This garden will encourage students and the community to become more conscious about the food they are eating and how these choices affect not only themselves, but also the planet.
