Garden Classrooms

IDEA Edinburg

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Edinburg RGV proposes to create a Garden to Table Culinary Art Program designed to provide hands-on opportunities for students to learn about sustainable living practices. Club members & their families will become experienced in gardening and will be active in the harvest, composting and recycling of much of the foods used in the program. The seeds planted and harvested by those participating in Horticulture will be passed on to those club members who are in the Culinary program.

Lanier Middle School

Sustainable Agriculture: Creation/expansion and planting of raised-bed organic vegetable garden and composting in the school courtyard. This courtyard is maintained by students, parents, and wider community and is used as an outdoor living classroom. It has various ecosystem and students connect their learning through various classes and after school Eco-Club. Students understand the importance of growing locally and eating healthy at school and at home through this hands on project.

Sutherland Secondary School

The Edible Garden Project is partnering with the North Vancouver School District to develop an innovative outdoor classroom and revitalize under-used school land. Our goal is to transform one-third of an acre of lawn into a "schoolyard market garden". The garden will be managed by the North Shore Neighbourhood House's Edible Garden Project, sell produce grown to sustain operations, invite classes to participate in the garden and learn outdoors, and engage the community with events and volunteer opportunities.

Highlands Intermediate School

The goal of the Highlands' Aquaponics Garden is to engage 100% of the student population in activities that address sustainable farming systems so as to lessen Hawaii's 90% dependency on imported foods and to help diversify Hawaii's economy. Students will be involved in activities that address community health issues, such as senior nutrition, through service learning projects. Students create hydroponic systems for seniors to grow tomatoes, lettuce, green onions, and other easy-growing vegetables.

Dripping Springs Elementary School

It is imperative that our students today are involved,hands-on and active to motivate their learning. We would like to turn our desolate raised garden tubs into a thriving, lush school and community garden. Because we are the bilingual campus, we'd also like to teach our students how to plant produce familiar with the cultures we encounter on a daily basis. We are currently working with the local food pantry on solutions to help offer fresh produce selections to their customers. The main goal of our school garden would be to sustain a weekly delivery to the local food pantry.

Woodland Elementary Charter School

At Woodland, our new garden program brings together our students, teachers, parents and community members. We are working together to mange a large-scale garden. Woodland is a PreK-5th grade elementary school in Sandy Springs, Georgia. We are in the process of becoming STEM Certified. Our school gardening program fits perfectly into the curriculum for every grade level, ability and every subject. Gardening provides our students with amazing hands on learning opportunities and lessons they will carry with them for a lifetime. We are a center school for students with special needs.

Centreville Elementary School

Centreville Elementary School (CES) would like to expand its outdoor learning program to include a vegetable garden aligned with the Virginia history Standards of Learning. We would also like to build a greenhouse using recycled water bottles. The greenhouse will allow us to build upon our already existing recycling efforts turning into an even more meaningful project.

Don Roberts Elementary

Our goal is to expose every child to the joy of gardening while instilling an appreciation and understanding of the benefits of growing clean and nutritious foods. In addition, students will learn valuable economic skills through the implementation of a West Little Rock Farmer's Market that will help support and sustain the life of the garden. For the importance of growing healthy, students will use various food items from our garden for education and provide cooking classes in the evenings in order to teach other students how to cook healthy meals.

Hill Elementary

The Hill Garden's goal is to help educate our Upper Elementary students about the process of growing, harvesting and preparing organically grown foods. Our garden is 4 years old and we have assigned a single 5'x8' raised bed to each kinder and 1st grade class. They grow a variety of vegetables, herbs and flowers which they take home or use in class. We would like to add a watering system for the entire garden, add 10 beds and begin an annual pickling project for classes from various grade levels.

Little Village Academy

The Little Village Academy garden is one element of a school campus master plan developed with the support of Enlace and the engagement of over 60 stakeholders. The plan’s goal is to improve the quality, safety, and functionality of the school’s outdoor space while increasing accessibility to green and recreational spaces in a community that lacks such amenities.
