About the Program:

The Little Village Academy garden is one element of a school campus master plan developed with the support of Enlace and the engagement of over 60 stakeholders. The plan’s goal is to improve the quality, safety, and functionality of the school’s outdoor space while increasing accessibility to green and recreational spaces in a community that lacks such amenities. The garden will function as an outdoor classroom and a community gathering space, educating and nourishing Little Village Academy students and engaging a larger network of community members in learning about food systems and healthy eating and living habits. Grant money will be used to install raised beds and buy materials like compost, tools and seeds, and beds will be used to grow edibles and provide seating. Some will include trellises for grape vines that will add to the height of the fence on the south side of the school, in order to create a safer and more private environment for the younger children who play there.
