Garden Classrooms

Abernethy Elementary School Kitchen Garden Program

Abernethy Elementary’s School Kitchen Garden program provides kids with comprehensive food-based education, garden space, a working kitchen with a chef and fresh produce eaten at meals. Our goal: improve student learning and instill lifelong habits of health.

Seeds of Change

We have recently started a 14 bed organic produce garden at our school. Community members will garden in the summer and our third, fourth and fifth graders will take over in September. Our goal is to have a working produce garden within a year, providing fresh produce to our school cafeteria and giving kids healthy alternatives to the typical school lunch.

International School Grounds Alliance

The non-profit International School Grounds Alliance (ISGA) is a global network of organizations working to enrich children’s learning and play through improving the way school grounds are designed and used. The wellbeing of children and the ecological diversity of their learning landscapes are intrinsically linked. The ISGA aims to support all schools in making the most of the opportunities excellent school grounds afford. We invite like minded organizations and professionals to become ISGA members and collaborate to nurture and grow this international movement.

Cien Aguas International School

Our goal is to implement our school's mission to have a sustainable campus. The grant will enable us to transform our concrete/asphalt school yard into a model of urban gardening outdoor education and simple sustainable practices that community members can practice at home. We will have a space for outdoor health-centered education events which will facilitate community building. The grant will allow us to purchase materials to give our garden a strong start.
