Garden Classrooms

Sustainable Love from Development

Sustainable Love is dedicated to educating children about foods and nutrition by offering healthy foods at meal times, providing education materials about the foods being served, helping students create a garden and guiding children in preparing healthy snacks.

Our pilot project is taking place at Peaceful Valley Montessori Academy in Golden Valley. We've succeeded in providing healthy, naturally delicious meals. The garden and educational program was started and May and is coming along slowly, but we keep working to succeed.

Martin Luther King Jr. Sr. High School Organic Garden

We are in the first year of building our gardens here at the new King.  We have newly constructed school and campus.  The out or doors portion of the campus is vast and has lots of potential for growing and learning.  We have started with 4 raised beds in the designated garden area.  We will expand this garden annually and build and arboretum and a fruitscape.

John B. Connally High School Teaching Garden

The John B. Connally High School teaching garden was founded through a grant from Whole Kids Foundation / Food Corp and Les Dames Escoffier Austin Chapter as part of the Pflugerville ISD culinary arts program at John B. Connally High School to teach students where food comes from and to explore vegetables at the peak of freshness while learning different cooking methods to use them.

C.A.R.E.S.

At Tri-County we currently have 5 raised garden beds , a courtyard that the students designed with window boxes, and a new greenhouse. We integrate our curriculum everyday into our gardening initiative. Our students, most of whom are new to horticulure  attain valuable skills throughout the year .

Rowan Garden Club

I started an organic garden club with about 10 studens after school this year.  I would like to expand the program and the garden and eventually create the edible schoolyard.

Northern Valley Regional @ Demarest Organic Garden

Our high school is situated in the middle of the Northern New Jersey suburbs, far removed from the farms that used to service the New York metropolitan area.  We currently have a 2500 square foot garden that we use to grow a multitude of vegetables and flowers.  Our support staff includes one teacher of culinary arts (this writer), interested staff,  a group of 25 dedicated students, and members of the Korean Parent association.

Northpoint Elementary School

The Northpoint Unity Garden and Monarch Waystation is a one-year old program that was created to revamp an used outdoor space.  It resides in an interior courtyard at an elementary school and is home to a vegetable and herb garden, feathered friends and a newly created Monarch Waystation.  We believe in partnering with community organizations to tap into areas of expertise to best educate our youth in grades K-5.

Endeavor Learning Center

Endeavor Learning Center enrolls infants through 3rd graders. Our Mission is to prepare our children to care for their environment and each other through gardening, composting, recycling, and enjoying the outdoors. We feel the younger these habits are instilled the more likely they will be carried through adulthood.

We are surrounded by 5.8 acres of a Wildlife Habitat. The children are creating an edible forest, organic gardens, a native plant prairie, and this year helping to build a haybale greenhouse.

Garden and Nature Club at Veterans Park Elementary School

My friend and I wanted to start teaching kids where their food comes from and how to grow your own vegetables.  We are parent volunteers and started a small after club this year.  We want to continue to expand and hopefully have the cafeteria be able to use our harvest.  We have big dreams, but it's only the 2 of us and our funding is limited.
