Garden Classrooms

Rowan Garden Club

I started an organic garden club with about 10 studens after school this year.  I would like to expand the program and the garden and eventually create the edible schoolyard.

Northern Valley Regional @ Demarest Organic Garden

Our high school is situated in the middle of the Northern New Jersey suburbs, far removed from the farms that used to service the New York metropolitan area.  We currently have a 2500 square foot garden that we use to grow a multitude of vegetables and flowers.  Our support staff includes one teacher of culinary arts (this writer), interested staff,  a group of 25 dedicated students, and members of the Korean Parent association.

Northpoint Elementary School

The Northpoint Unity Garden and Monarch Waystation is a one-year old program that was created to revamp an used outdoor space.  It resides in an interior courtyard at an elementary school and is home to a vegetable and herb garden, feathered friends and a newly created Monarch Waystation.  We believe in partnering with community organizations to tap into areas of expertise to best educate our youth in grades K-5.

Endeavor Learning Center

Endeavor Learning Center enrolls infants through 3rd graders. Our Mission is to prepare our children to care for their environment and each other through gardening, composting, recycling, and enjoying the outdoors. We feel the younger these habits are instilled the more likely they will be carried through adulthood.

We are surrounded by 5.8 acres of a Wildlife Habitat. The children are creating an edible forest, organic gardens, a native plant prairie, and this year helping to build a haybale greenhouse.

Garden and Nature Club at Veterans Park Elementary School

My friend and I wanted to start teaching kids where their food comes from and how to grow your own vegetables.  We are parent volunteers and started a small after club this year.  We want to continue to expand and hopefully have the cafeteria be able to use our harvest.  We have big dreams, but it's only the 2 of us and our funding is limited.

Dublin High Special Education Garden Program

The program was created to provide opportunities for moderate and severely students with disabilities opportunities to work and increase social interactions with general educational students.

We grow produce throughout the year and then collect donations for it when it is ready.

The Montessori School of Englewood

We are a new school opening in August 2012. We are interested in putting in a school garden and outdoor classroom.

Garden of Learning

Garden of Learning is an award winning program that allows schools to start and sustain a successful academic garden program. It includes 10 CDs with materials to help you initiate, implement and sustain a successful school garden program:

The Garden System - A system for starting and sustaining elementary school garden programs.

The Sylvia Center

The Sylvia Center addresses issues in children’s health by providing hands-on experiences with growing and cooking healthy food on the farm and in the kitchen. Founded in 2006 by Liz Neumark in memory of her daughter, Sylvia, the center has served thousands of children over the past five years.
