Garden Classrooms

The Computer School, MS 245

The Computer School is a highly diverse urban community hailing from many different cultures, races, religions and economic backgrounds, where teamwork, project-based learning, and connecting with our social and natural environment are at the core of our mission.

Regis House, Inc.

Our garden will not only involve growth of sustainable fruits and greens, but will also help facilitate the growth of the youths in our community. The at-risk youths involved in the Regis House Family Empowerment Program will not only have the opportunity to gain their community service hours but will also learn responsibility as they nurture and maintain the garden. The continued upkeep of the garden will provide a platform for education about the importance of community, environment, and overall health for many groups to come.

Warren Lane Urban Farm

The Warren Lane Urban Garden at Warren Lane Elementary School in Inglewood, CA will be a space for students to learn through structured class activities and for local residents to enjoy through community events. Teachers can utilize the space for outdoor, hands-on activities that engage the students in science, health, and environmentalism while encouraging students to pursue S.T.E.M. related fields.

East Valley School District

A 4.5 acre garden with open space and raised beds. We Eat the produce that we grow in our lunch programs and give the rest to valley food bank. We Use for a teaching tool in our classrooms.

Crutcho Schools Garden

The Crutcho School garden currently consists of ten 4x10 raised beds and a small hoop house constructed recently by a local church group. This summer, the garden was tended by school staff members and produced tomatoes, basil, melons, and peppers for summer school students to enjoy. During the 2012-2013 school year, Crutcho students will be working with staff members from the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma's Urban Harvest program to learn more about growing and preparing fresh, healthy foods.

Challenge Foundation Academy

We serve 475 elementary school children in a challenged neighborhood in Indianapolis. More than 80% of our students receive free/reduced lunch. Our garden program was started to provide students information and education on food sources and nutrition. We have an active garden club and families are able to take home fresh produce during certain seasons.

Durham Elementary

Last year we were fortunate enough to afford an instructor that would come out once a month and worked with the children to help maintain and harvest vegetable from the garden. Without their assistance our garden has really been negleted. We would really like to revamp our garden by cleaning out dead plants, planting new grass, add pavers or a stone pathway near water faucet, buy some large pruning scissors and wheel barrel tires. Anything to really make this place look alive and get the kids excited about gardening.

Santa Fe High School Garden

Santa Fe High School has a school garden in development with the hopes to be an outdoor and experiential classroom for many teachers and subjects, as well as an opportunity to produce food for the school's cafeteria. We would like to reinvigorate the garden program at the high school, providing the necessary resources to make it a viable means of food production for students who are passionate about changing the food lanscape at their school.

Kelly Middle School

The Kelly Middle School garden is a place where students, staff, parents, and community members grow, develop new skills, and engage in meaningful service together. The garden serves as a valuable teaching tool, where students may learn about a wide variety of topics, ranging from the science of photosynthesis to the art of nature writing to the mathematics involved in preparing a healthy meal. The garden allows students to interact with the natural world and learn through their senses and hands-on experiences in an outdoor space.

St David's Foundation Community Garden

With a permanent place to call home, SFC will be equipped to expand our programs such as Grow Local, our community and youth gardening program with roots dating back 40 years; create a state-of-the-art teaching kitchen and host community events from hands-on workshops to film screenings to public forums for change. In addition, a 2.3 acre community garden adjacent to the property will provide access for east side neighbors to grow their own food as well as children and families to learn the principles of organic food production. Here is a video describing the project:
