Garden Classrooms

FoodCorps Gallup

The FoodCorps in Gallup serves three elementary schools and operates an acre+ educational community farm. We strive to engage children in growing gardens, eating locally grown produce, and practicing healthy eating habits for a long and healthy life.

Montgomery Elementary

Montgomery Elementary's garden was started in the Fall of 2011 and has already shown to have endless educational possibilities for our school community. Our Farm to School initiative is to improve the overall health and nutrition knowledge of our school community through garden-related curriculum, awareness campaigns and exposure to local and healthy food. We hope that the implementation of Montgomery's edible educational garden will help create a healthier educational environment over all. Therefore, allowing the community to "Watch ME" grow for years to come!

River City Hope Street (501c3 for Grow Together)

Grow Together is fundraising for a garden at 12th and Chicon, one of the highest crime areas of Austin, and situated near River City Hope Street, the non-profit umbrella under which we serve. Grow Together uses teams of volunteers to support four community gardens serving distinct populations in Austin: refugees, children in foster care, the elderly and food pantry clients. Our mission is to reach out to more populations in need, using the garden as a catalyst to grow relationships and improve lives.

Por Vida Academy Charter High School

Our school garden was implemented in May 2011. Our School Health Advisory Council felt that the school garden would be very instrumental in helping our students learn about gardening and growing healthy foods. Our goal with the school garden is to educate our students on the benefits and rewards of gardening. This experience will provide them with education and tools that they can use to grow their own food and learn about healthy eating. Our school consists of students at risk and with lower socio-economic status.

Nonquit Street Neighborhood Association and Land Trust

Nonquit Street Neighborhood Association and Land Trust, founded in 1992, bridges the gap between nature and culture in the community. It serves the higher spiritual needs of residents as a necessity, not a luxury, in the low-income community of Upham's Corner, Dorchester. With many volunteers, NSNALT has organized clean-ups of local properties, persuaded property owners to make specific improvements and enhancements, and transformed two desolate spaces at opposite ends of a 400-ft.

Brader Elementary School

Students at Brader Elementary enjoy the garden experience and lesson extensions through science and literature culminating in community Harvest Festival events in the fall and in the spring. We would like to incorporate a handicapped accessible garden for our special needs students so that they can experience gardening as well. We would also like to replace our current fence.

Norcrest Elementary

The Norcrest Sensory Garden is an inclusive educational garden that provides opportunities for all students including children with special needs to develop sensory integration outdoors. It invites and encourages curiosity, creativity, and exploration. It is designed to engage all 5 senses, increasing concentration and attention. Outdoor education provides a relaxed learning environment, can engage the disengaged and importantly, makes learning fun.

Waggener Farm Park

Friends of Waggener Farm Park (a Berthoud, Colorado, grassroots citizen advocay group)aims to develop a 35 acre, town-owned conservation easement into a sustainable agricuture learning center that will grow community spirit, rekindle Berthoud

Raices de Esperanza (Roots of Hope)

Centro de Salud Esperanza (Esperanza Health Center), in cooperation with Telpochcalli School, has established a community garden to help low-income, Mexican-American immigrant families experience gardening and learn about healthy eating. Our garden helps to pass the knowledge of plants and gardening from mothers who grew up in an agrarian culture to their children who are growing up in an urban environment. Over the coming year our program will:

*Provide raised bed gardening space (1/2 of a 4' X 12' bed)to a total of 18 families

Ausin International School

We want to provide our teachers a way to supplement their health, science and math curricula with hands-on teaching opportunities. Our school is an International school, bringing children and families together from around the world. The children will learn to love and appreciate nature and conservation first hand. This is yet another way for the children to learn from each other and share it with their families.
