Garden Classrooms

Raices de Esperanza (Roots of Hope)

Centro de Salud Esperanza (Esperanza Health Center), in cooperation with Telpochcalli School, has established a community garden to help low-income, Mexican-American immigrant families experience gardening and learn about healthy eating. Our garden helps to pass the knowledge of plants and gardening from mothers who grew up in an agrarian culture to their children who are growing up in an urban environment. Over the coming year our program will:

*Provide raised bed gardening space (1/2 of a 4' X 12' bed)to a total of 18 families

Ausin International School

We want to provide our teachers a way to supplement their health, science and math curricula with hands-on teaching opportunities. Our school is an International school, bringing children and families together from around the world. The children will learn to love and appreciate nature and conservation first hand. This is yet another way for the children to learn from each other and share it with their families.

Stoney Hill Community Garden

The Stoney Hill Community Garden is a community garden that provides learning to youth ages K-12 and food to the needy in Greensboro, NC. The community of the garden is low income and in need of healthy and affordable vegetables. Our goal is to end childhood obesity in this neighborhood and encourage sustainable food practices. We are dedicated to changing the lives of many with just a few acts of kindness.

Boise Urban Garden School

The Boise Urban Garden School (BUGS) is a specialized, inquiry-based education organization that utilizes an organic garden setting as the foundation for our unique learning environment. Our mission is to grow healthy bodies and inquiring minds. In 2013, we will celebrate our tenth anniversary, and since our founding, we have provided our students with knowledge through “real life” experiences.

FarmGirls' Urban Farms

Our FarmGirls' Urban Farm will be a community garden with plots for singles, families, and area restaurants. An extension of the DFW Truck Farm education program will host a facility on site with classrooms for education and kitchen for learning how to can and preserve food from the garden. This Urban Farm will have bees, worms, chickens, composting, and many garden education classes.

Forest Park Community Garden

Forest Park Community Garden is located in Forest Park, Illinois, a small Village 8 miles from downtown Chicago. Before FPCG was established in 2008, there were no resources for Forest Park residents who wanted to garden but didn't have a place to do so.

Boys & Girls Club of Milford

The Boys & Girls Club of Milford is an after school program for youth ages 6-18 years old. We provide a fun, educational and safe place for young people to go after school and when they need us most. We will be building, growing and loving a vegetable garden at our Clubhouse. Most of our members either live in an apartment or housing complex which does not allow them to experience the joys of a garden and the rewards of growing, tending to, and the picking of fresh fruits and veggies.

Odyssey Charter School

We are a progressive charter school of 400 students, grades K-8. The school is built around a central courtyard that was wood chips and sand when we moved in 5 years ago. With very limited budget and only parent volunteers working with the students, we've created a small but robust raised bed garden that represents the blossoming heart of our school.
