Crutcho Schools Garden

Program Type:
Garden Classrooms
About the Program:

The Crutcho School garden currently consists of ten 4x10 raised beds and a small hoop house constructed recently by a local church group. This summer, the garden was tended by school staff members and produced tomatoes, basil, melons, and peppers for summer school students to enjoy. During the 2012-2013 school year, Crutcho students will be working with staff members from the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma's Urban Harvest program to learn more about growing and preparing fresh, healthy foods. They will be starting seeds in the hoop house and constructing bins for composting food waste from the school cafeteria. Through this garden, K-8th grade students will have the opportunity to participate in hands-on fresh food activities that they might not otherwise have the opportunity to experience.
