Garden Classrooms

Hyannis West Elementary

My childrens' elementary school received a $1000 grant from a local church with the suggestion to start a school garden. As a Master Gardener and mom, I jumped at the chance to help get it going. After applying for and receiving a subsequent $2000 grant from Whole Kids Foundation, we were able to create a beautiful outdoor classroom with 11 raised beds (more coming), a worm composter, compost area, rain barrel, small shed and a sink for rinsing.

Children's Day School - Farm and Garden Program

At CDS we recognize that an intimate relationship with nature is critical for a child's full development. Our large, sunny schoolyard features an organic garden and farm, home to chickens and sheep that give children opportunities to experience first-hand the connections inherent to a healthy ecosystem, as well as to develop a sense of place and season. The CDS farm and garden program has three educational objectives for our students:

Stable Meadows Life Enrichment Center and Farm

~~Mission Statement:

Stable Meadows Life Enrichment Center and Farm is dedicated to the healing and improvement of individuals through counseling, coaching, self-discovery, mindfulness and professional wellness services

Mission Montessori Schools

OUR MISSION
Our mission is to prepare and provide the most natural and life supporting environment for the child, observing the child and continually adapting the environment to support the fulfillment of the child's greatest potential—physically, intellectually, emotionally and spiritually.

Our GOALS are:

A Step Ahead Preschool

Centennial Montessori School

I am the Outdoor Educator at Centennial Montessori School in San Mateo.  We are a small private Montessori that serves children from 18 months- 5th grade.

We started our outdoor program 2 years ago and have open flow from the classrooms.  Children can choose to come outside to care for the garden and spend time in our outdoor environment throughout the day.  The program and environment are still evolving and as always the garden is a work in progress.

Adirondack Farm to School Initiative

The Adirondack Farm to School Initiative (ADKF2S) was formed in 2013 when the SLCS Food Service Director, Ruth Pino, organized a committee to create initial connections between schools and local farms in order to support the local economy, serve local foods in schools, and bring food-related education into the classroom.

We currently support School Gardens in 4 School Districts and are working with Garden Coordinators, teachers, and committed volunteers to develop garden-based curriculum for K-12 in the following schools:

Burdick Greenhouse

Burdick built a hoophouse in order to teach our students about how and where our food comes from. The hoop house is new to us this year and we are experimenting with what plants and vegetables are for each growing season. Currently we have the kids working side by side with staff on planting plants, watering and weeding in the greenhouse. We are expanding our learning to growing the plants from seeds in the classroom and after that the possiblities are endless.
