High School

Albuquerque Academy

We have a small greenhouse and garden plot that students help maintain. Our goal is to expand to grow food for the dining hall and to sell at the weekly farmers market on campus. We have been working to convince the dining halls to use our local, healthy food--higher yield would increase our ability to do this.

Woodbridge College

The goal of our garden will be to create a dynamic learning experience for our Developmentally Delayed classroom. These students, who are in Grades 9-12, are functioning from the pre-K to Grade 1 level. Some of them have lived very sheltered lives, and need different experiences in order for them to grow. The garden will be a learning and a living experience for these children. This garden will help some of these students gain valuable experience that they may be able to use in the job force.

Wando High School

Our school garden began with the inception of our school horticulture program in the Fall of 2009. Through donations of seed and rich topsoil our school garden had humble beginnings. Students in our suburban town got to experience, many for the first time, the miracle and crowning achievement of growing their own food. Each student begins with vegetables seeds and grows them to maturity in one short semester. In the past, some of these vegetables have been used by our culinary arts program and others donated to our local "Meals on Wheels" program.

Vernonia Schools

This garden will be a teaching tool for our students and the community. Food security is a hot topic in our region, and this garden will be the focal point for education on food production. 2013 will be our second year in production, and we will continue providing excess food to the local food bank. Our school is developing a stronger natural resources program, and many teachers have asked for a practical "lab" with which they can demonstrate many key concepts of the sciences.

Tulsa Met High School

The goal of the Tulsa Met Community Garden is to make fresh produce readily accessible to Tulsa Met Junior High and High School students and community members. In addition, the garden must be a site of real-world, project-based learning where students can design and complete projects with authentic and meaningful results. With the funds from the grant, TMCG will have access to a larger variety of seeds and plant types that grow well in our climate. This will ensure a continuous harvest.

The Williams School

The goal of our vegetable garden is to continue to provide for the needs of our youth and staff by planting, growing and harvesting a wide variety of healthy and nutritional vegetables.

It is out hope that with the continued support of our community, especially Chick-fil-A Clinton, MS and this grant, we will be able to continue to grow our garden and even supply our area food pantry with seasonally fresh vegetables year round.

St. Paul School

The goal of the garden is two fold which is implicitly stated in the core principles of a Lasallian school. Community - Lasallian Principle: Concern for the Poor and Social Justice - The Covington Food Bank located in Covington, LA serves over 1500 families. St. Paul's is the largest contributor of canned goods to the food bank with donations exceeding 10 tons during the academic year. Our focus is to supplement sodium rich cans with healthy alternatives of fresh greens and root vegetables through year round gardening.

Riverview High School

This garden grant will give the kids in the "Stars to Starfish" program to experiance the different kinds of agriculture methods of growing produce. The "Stars to Starfish" program is a program that allows kids from all over the county to experiance the Riverview Greenhouse and now a garden consisting of hydroponices systems and raised grow boxes. The kids tour the greenhouse for about an hour and are taught by students from Riverview that are involved in the greenhouse. Once we can complete the out-door garden we will be able to incorporate the garden into the tour of the greenhouse.

Rio Mesa High School

The goal of the Student Garden at Rio Mesa High School is to become a resource designed to teach students with disabilities about sources of healthy foods and the dietary choices that lead to better health, as well as building a foundation for a student-run business. The business will directly benefit students by affording them activities in the community that will increase their access to the curriculum..

REAL School - RSU 14

The primary goal of REAL School is to launch an entrepreneurial side to our existing agriculture program. We are currently in our second growing season with our hoop house producing hearty winter greens (mache, mustard greens, spinach, etc.) to be served in the school
