Rio Mesa High School
The goal of the Student Garden at Rio Mesa High School is to become a resource designed to teach students with disabilities about sources of healthy foods and the dietary choices that lead to better health, as well as building a foundation for a student-run business. The business will directly benefit students by affording them activities in the community that will increase their access to the curriculum.. The Students from the West Campus Transition Program will build and use the garden to grow vegetables and flowers for sale in the student business and for use in their currriculum of nutrition and diet. Students will be encouraged to demonstrate use of the garden products in their diets. The student business will deliver flower arrangements on a subscription basis, similar to the Netflix model, where each subscriber will receive a fresh flower arrangement on a weekly basis. Students will also stock and staff a farm vegetable stand for a weekly market within the school, to both, educate students and supply fresh vegetables to their customers. Students will engage in enterpreneurial activities which will increase opportunities for entering competitive, integrated employment. This program is supported by .
