About the Program:

The goal of the garden is two fold which is implicitly stated in the core principles of a Lasallian school. Community - Lasallian Principle: Concern for the Poor and Social Justice - The Covington Food Bank located in Covington, LA serves over 1500 families. St. Paul's is the largest contributor of canned goods to the food bank with donations exceeding 10 tons during the academic year. Our focus is to supplement sodium rich cans with healthy alternatives of fresh greens and root vegetables through year round gardening. School - Lasallian Principle: Quality Education - The garden will provide an abundance of teaching opportunities through the curriculum. The grant will make it possible for an expansion of the existing garden from 5 raised beds to 10, fence vines and herb planters, renovation of the green house damaged by Hurricane Isaac, and a much needed irrigation system.
