High School

Round Rock Opportunity Center

Our school the Round Rock Opportunity Center, has over the past four years built a garden spot from a vacant lot. The focus has been on wildflowers, native plants and other decorative plants. We have an unused greenhouse and this year would wish to expand our student's efforts to include starting, raising and cultivating vegetables, leafy greens, peppers and herbs. The products of this garden will be used to supplement school food program or, if sufficient, for distribution to local charities.

Mitkof Middle School

Petersburg School + Community Sustainable Garden's mission is to connect both youth and elders to explore the mosaics of plants, people, cultural heritage, science and sustainable living in a collaborative effort as we act together to enhance the community of Petersburg.

The SEED School of Maryland

Our school garden offers students a unique opportunity to apply knowledge gained inside the classroom. Inside the classroom students learn about a host of topics surrounding plants, nutrition and gardening. Outside the classroom, utilizing the school garden, students are able to apply all knowledge gained inside the classroom to prep the garden, identify which plants grow best during the planting season, maintain the school garden and harvest and cook all fruits and vegetables harvested from the garden.

Marin Oaks High School

Our goal is to see the garden extend across the curriculum, around the campus and out into the community. This can be done in many ways:
̢

Darien High School

The goal of the Whole Kids Foundation Sustainable Native Plant Garden at the Darien High School is to promote sustainability locally and globally. This native plant garden will educate the school population, faculty, parents and broader community about the importance of biodiversity, native planting in our landscape ,and promote gardening as a healthy and rewarding lifestyle addition which contributes to the health and well being of our planet.

PASC - BCSSSD

Our campus serves the special needs of learners with Autism. In September we were granted permission to run the school garden (has been unused for two years). The garden will have multiple functions for our learners. It will be utilized as a vocational program for high school students, teach our learners an age appropriate leisure activity, enhance social skills, provide opportunties for desensitization and food exploration as well as meeting NJ Core Curriculum Content Standards for science, health and nutrition in a hands-on method.

Everett High School

A primary goal of the Everett Gardens is to increase scores in Math, Science in ELA tests through hands on experiential learning. By encouraging purposeful learning through active participation, students will engage in instruction that is more relevant and expecting of personal responsibility and accountability for learning. A second goal is to have students understand the importance of food access and to create a needs assessment for our own community.

The Quaker School at Horsham

With this grant, we hope to expand our garden by at least 2 raised beds. Our garden has several goals: a hands-on science learning program; integrated cooperative learning experience; interdisciplinary curriculum. These goals all contribute to our philosophy that our students learn best by doing hands-on work in cooperative teams. These projects involve math, planning, critical thinking, collaboration, construction, as well as environmental science.

Connecticut River Academy

At the Connecticut River Academy, we believe in "connecting learning to the real world." We are an environmentally themed magnet high school that aims to incorporate acknowledgement and understanding of our natural world. Having a garden on our property further promotes this theme by exposing our students to the resources that sustain them. The goal for our garden is to promote healthy lifestyles and stewardship of our environment. We will be moving to a new building in January which will also allow us an opportunity to relocate and expand our garden.
