Hollis Elementary

13. The goal of the school gardens is to teach students where their food comes from and how to grow it sustainably. The gardens serve as outdoor learning labs where students can learn through hands-on experiences that draw on a variety of subject matter. The food grown is used for taste testings in the school lunch program and in health classes thus improving the nutritional quality of the food as well as making healthy eating appealing. Produce is also donated to local food pantries.

Hollin Meadows Science and Math Focus School

Our goal is and continues to be providing authentic education through real world experiences in school. The working gardens have resulted in significant student achievement gains in math & science especially for our at-risk students. Through the teaching gardens students have developed an intrinsic motivation and interest in being environmentally active. Our goal is to raise achievement and test scores for undeserved populations of students.

Holden Elementary

Our goal is for students to eat more fresh food understand where it comes from and know its health benefits. We will also create a welcoming outdoor learning environment and connect students and teachers with the garden in all curriculum areas. We will acquire materials for educational investigation and equipment for students to harvest prepare and taste garden produce. Ultimately the Holden school community will have more ways to spend time in learn from and celebrate the garden.

Hocking Valley Community Residential Center (HVCRC)

These grants will make it possible for the youth and residents in the Trimble and Nelsonville communities learn self-sufficiency skills concerning their food supplies. Specifically re-skilling primary and secondary grade students will empower our youth to become a long term solution to the hunger and health issues plaguing our region create familial and community food security and

Ho-Ho-Kus Public School

To create and establish an outdoor learning environment in our courtyard that will create a framework for interdisciplinary collaborative experiential and student-centered learning. In addition we will incorporate a community outreach program that will foster environmental stewardship healthy food choices and an appreciation of nature and ecosystems.

Hmong International Academy

This grant will allow the students families and community members of HIA to continue a rich learning experience. The community garden will give the 3rd and 5th grade students the opportunity to experience the process of creating a garden (planning preparation planting caring for and harvesting).This community garden also supports the values of the Hmong culture. The community garden project ties Minnesota State Standards inquiry based learning and community involvement together.

Hindley Elementary School

We have plans to use the garden as an educational tool. Teachers and children will incorporate the garden into lesson plans to learn about conservation the environment community food systems and the importance of healthy eating. In addition we hope to include the produce as an offering in the cafeteria or at the local farmers market.

Hillside Senior Public School

Our gardening goal is to increase access to fresh healthy food food growing spaces and food education in our community. Two challenges that our partner schools face with independent gardens are teacher time and summer maintenance. By including community partners and volunteers our goal is to share the work and the reward while learning about food together. By working collectively in public spaces we will learn from our diversity get to know one another better and enjoy delicious healthy food

Hillside Elementary School

The goal of our gardens is to teach our students to live sustainably. Our gardens are integrated into the curriculum and serve to support teachers' efforts in the classroom but moreover they serve to teach our children how to grow vegetable crops using organic methods. Further we intentionally planted a large seasonal vegetable garden at the front of our school with the intent of inspiring visitors to garden at home. The grant will sustain and allow us to make improvements to our program.

Hillcrest School

The garden goal for Hillcrest Vocational Agriculture is to grow hydroponic vegetables. This is the first time hydroponics will be used at Hillcrest School which is a center school for special needs students. The new system will make gardening more physically accessible to the students. They will sell the vegetables or fruits harvested at a reduced rate to the community. It will provide the opportunity for the community to be in contact with special needs young adults and see their potential.
