Garden Classrooms

Horace Ensign Intermediate School

Through the process of planning planting maintaining and harvesting the crops students become actively involved in learning about the foods they eat enhancing healthy eating choices. Additionally research suggests students show improved academic success with increased involvement in the school culture as such the school garden provides an opportunity for many kids who would be unable to attend after school hours to become involved in a club and engage in the school environment.

Hopkins Hill School

Creating raised vegetable garden beds at our school is helping us to learn about ecosystems in the real world, to learn about gardening and where produce comes from, and to have fresh produce for our lunch room. It allows us to donate to the community food bank and will help to make our school grounds greener. It will also allow for future learning about composting and water conservation. We are proud of the new garden shed and rain barrels that we added this year.

Hopewell High School

Our garden goal is to create a beautiful soup garden for the students and to share the bounty of the garden with two local Meals on Wheels organizations in the community. A secondary goal is to cultivate education while cultivating a school garden. Students will disabilities will be given an opportunity to plant a vegetable and herb garden. Students will research vegetables that they can grow to make their vegetable soup. Students will cultivate the land and plant vegetable and herb plants.

Hoover Math & Science Academy

The Hoover Math & Science Academy has had strong success with the original garden that we created a year and a half ago. It has been successful because of the numerous volunteers that we have on a daily basis. We would now like to expand our garden to have an even greater impact on our students and the local community. We are looking to create phase two of our

Holy Family School

Our goal is the revitilize the garden with new found support through partnerships within our community. We have recently formed a garden committee with a few master gardeners and other community garderns on it. The goal is to have the garden on site for our childen to learn hands on about the process and the enjoy the fruits of their labor. The funds would be used to irrigate and maintain the garden.

Holmes Elementary

Our goal is to reach our students through a hands on learning experience. The students will experience first hand how the earth is connected to their everyday life. The school will come together to learn work grow harvest and share food. The community will see how much we value education and how dedicated we are to improving the health and welfare of our children. Receiving a grant from the Whole Kids Foundation would make this all possible.

Hollis Elementary

13. The goal of the school gardens is to teach students where their food comes from and how to grow it sustainably. The gardens serve as outdoor learning labs where students can learn through hands-on experiences that draw on a variety of subject matter. The food grown is used for taste testings in the school lunch program and in health classes thus improving the nutritional quality of the food as well as making healthy eating appealing. Produce is also donated to local food pantries.

Hollin Meadows Science and Math Focus School

Our goal is and continues to be providing authentic education through real world experiences in school. The working gardens have resulted in significant student achievement gains in math & science especially for our at-risk students. Through the teaching gardens students have developed an intrinsic motivation and interest in being environmentally active. Our goal is to raise achievement and test scores for undeserved populations of students.

Holden Elementary

Our goal is for students to eat more fresh food understand where it comes from and know its health benefits. We will also create a welcoming outdoor learning environment and connect students and teachers with the garden in all curriculum areas. We will acquire materials for educational investigation and equipment for students to harvest prepare and taste garden produce. Ultimately the Holden school community will have more ways to spend time in learn from and celebrate the garden.

Hocking Valley Community Residential Center (HVCRC)

These grants will make it possible for the youth and residents in the Trimble and Nelsonville communities learn self-sufficiency skills concerning their food supplies. Specifically re-skilling primary and secondary grade students will empower our youth to become a long term solution to the hunger and health issues plaguing our region create familial and community food security and
