Garden Classrooms

World City Center Preschool

World City Center is a Preschool located in the West Adams area of Los Angeles, California. We offer a unique approach to learning and enrichment that addresses the whole child and is based on principals of educational excellence and cross-cultural exploration.

The model consists of a two part offering;

Agua Caliente Elementary

Our program at Agua Caliente Elementary School (ACES) is brand new, as of 2017. Although the school has had a garden for nearly a decade, it has not been highly cultivated. Under a new wellness coordinator and thanks to several grants, ACES is determined to establish a central school garden. The school's mission is a primary focus on health and wellness, with the garden playing a central role in education, socialization and inspiration.

ACES serves elementary school students from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds in an all-inclusive hands-on education system.

Winton Middle School

      Winton Middle School is a low-income school, the majority of students are English Language Learners. 100% of students receive free breakfast and lunch. WMS is solely funded through Title 1 funds. Students enrolled are in grades 6-8. WMS utilizes Common Core and NGSS Standards. The classroom in charge of the school garden is my class, the Special Day Class (SDC) in which students have a variety of disabilities and learning challenges.

Una escuela de colores

Our mission is to seek that our communities have access to food education, so that this can provide a life filled with wellbeing and in turn permeate this culture in the immediate family.

Although we have had the opportunity to work for 5 years with public and private schools this time we will start working on a pilot program within a public school that is located in a marginalized area, this school has around 180 children from kindergarten to primary school

HES Garden Grow

The Herndon Elementary School (HES) Garden program was started in 2015 by a parent with a desire to get the students outside and have them get their hands dirty. In the 2016-17 school year, the garden program expanded to include not only time outside planting, but complimentary classroom curriculum as well. In the current 2017-18 school year, our students are studying subjects such as compost, weather, honeybees, square foot gardening, ecosystems and more. Additionally, we have students writing about the garden as part of their language arts curriculum.

Northwest Virginia Regional GREENetwork

The Northwest Virginia Regional GREENetwork started with a handful of Loudoun County public school sustainable student programs.  Seven years later we recently became a regional with four other counties.  We are an independent group that sought to communicate with other school clubs in our Network, sharing related information from within and seeking to connect with related organizations and companies.  Our Vision is to promote environmental literacy and stewardship with the environmental school clubs.

ChicopeeFRESH

ChicopeeFRESH is the farm-to-school program of the Chicopee Public Schools. Our mission is to provide every student in the district with access to locally sourced and nutritious meals, along with experiential learning opportunities in the classroom and school garden. Through the ChicopeeFRESH program, we aim to achieve food security in our community, support the New England food economy, and empower our students to develop healthy and positive relationships with their food.
