Middle School

Detroit Edison Public School Academy

Our school has two small gardens with several raised beds. Young students learn about gardening both in the classroom and by becoming a member of our school's Ecology Club. As we all know, a healthier child learns better.

Our students plant a salsa garden as well as a Michigan Native Plant garden. In the fall we harvest the salsa ingredients. Ecology Club students participate in a compare/contrast taste test (utilizing traditional store bought salsa in a jar as contrast). The results are broadcast on our daily morning announcements.

Davenport School of the Arts

The goal of our garden project is to teach our students about sustainability and the environment. The garden is utilized by our K-8 students and our EMH unit. Students have been able to raise their own vegetables for their Thanksgiving Feast, compare growth rates are various lettuce varietys, raise and release ladybugs as they learn about beneficial insects, and see firsthand the butterfly life cycle. They are also able to explore alternative farming methods through our hydroponics unit.

Charter School for Applied Technologies

The primary goal of CSAT's Greenhouse Education Garden is to engage students in real-world, greenhouse-based agricultural management, in alignment with best educational practices and New York State Learning Standards.

Mickle Middle School

The Young Urban Farmers Program was started at a Lincoln, Nebraska middle school in 2012 to connect children to the soil and the origins of their food. Students gain knowledge and experience in sustainable crop production, hoop house management, cooking their produce and basic business planning. The students are engaged in all aspects of the garden-from starting seed to selling at their own farmer's market.

The Community School

Our goal is to develop soil research plots so students can experience hands-on science in the garden. Our school was established on an old farm, where the topsoil had been sold by the previous farmers. Last year students tested the soil in the area where we plan to establish the study plots and found absolutely zero nitrates, phosphates, and the texture of the soil was pure sand.

Classroom in Bloom

Classroom in Bloom's mission is to deepen the connection between people and the land through school and community gardening

Cincinnati Waldorf School

Gardening is an important part of the Waldorf curriculum. We have used container gardens, raised beds, and tilled in-ground gardens at our two school campuses to meet the school's gardening curriculum goals for our elementary, kindergarten, and pre-K students. Our school is expanding our kindergarten and pre-K program at our Meshewa campus to include daily kindergarten and nursery classes.

The Elaine Clark Center

The christ Child Society of Atlanta is a chapter of the National Christ Child Society, a charitable federation of 40 chapters. Elizabeth's Garden is the Atlanta Chapter's Signature Program and was created to be an outdoor classroom, a living laboratory for students of the Elaine Clark Center to explore nature with their 5 senses. Our goal is to bring this Garden into the Classroom with monthly Cooking Classes and Classroom Activities.

Mary Collins School at Cherry Valley

Cherry Valley School has a greenhouse that has the potential to grow plants and young minds alike, but currently is in disrepair and unusable as a teaching space. The greenhouse could serve as a reliable outdoor teaching space, improving the garden and environmental education curriculum for our 6-8 grade classes.
