About the Program:

The primary goal of CSAT's Greenhouse Education Garden is to engage students in real-world, greenhouse-based agricultural management, in alignment with best educational practices and New York State Learning Standards. Specific objectives are to enhance knowledge and application of science, business, math, technology, and health concepts; to deepen understanding of nutrition and wellness; to provide exposure to healthy foods, their preparation and use; to increase career opportunities for students; and to involve CSAT students, families and the community in supporting good nutrition and entrepreneurial learning. This grant will allow CSAT to create a hydroponics/aquaponics garden in the Greenhouse. Creation of this garden will allow CSAT students to gain hands-on experience with another method for growing edible and decorative plant items. CSAT students are predominantly low-income students from the City of Buffalo, for whom good nutrition is often a low priority.
