Students for Environmental Sustainability

SES (Students for Environmental Sustainability) is a year old organization started by students at Kennesaw State University outside of Atlanta. The purpose of this organization is to develope a sustainable model of local food production and distribution in an urban environment. 

 

MA‘O Organic Farms

Our community of Wai‘anae is located on the west side of the island of O‘ahu and consists of six major ahupua‘a (ancient land divisions). In ancient times, Wai‘anae was a self-sufficient region that produced adequate amounts of food for its people while managing its land and water resources sustainably.

SMARTS Farm: transformed vacant parking lot now a thriving communicty garden and education hub in downtown San Diego.

Salem County Career and Technical High School

 The mission of the Salem County Vocational Technical School District is to prepare students for employment, for further education leading to employment, and for lifelong learning.

Salem County Health Department

 The Salem County Health Department employs a full time health educators who covers any and all health related topics that your group or organization may need. These presentations can be a onetime event or a series of educational presentations designed to build upon each other and provide comprehensive knowledge of a particular condition or illness. The Salem County Health Department is committed to providing our community with the resources to take charge of their lives and improve their health.

Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Gloucester County

 Rutgers New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station (NJAES) Cooperative Extension helps the diverse population of New Jersey adapt to a rapidly changing society and improve their lives and communities through an educational process that uses science based knowledge. Through science-based educational programs, Rutgers Cooperative Extension truly enhances the quality of life for residents of New Jersey and brings the wealth of knowledge of the state university to local communities.

 

The Food School at Common Ground Urban Farm

 The Food School is a start up non-profit organization in Ft. Collins, CO that offers unique agricultural experiences combined with on- and off-site food education for children and adults. Currently, our staff visits local classrooms and delivers standards-aligned food educaiton curriculum about topics such as food equity, food security, and faces of the food chain.

Rio Mesa High School

The goal of the Student Garden at Rio Mesa High School is to become a resource designed to teach students with disabilities about sources of healthy foods and the dietary choices that lead to better health, as well as building a foundation for a student-run business. The business will directly benefit students by affording them activities in the community that will increase their access to the curriculum..

Beth Ramacher Educational Complex

The goal of our school garden is to expose our students to new adventures and new experiences. Our students have severe disabilities and some of the students are medically fragile. They do not get to experience gardens; for some they do not get to experience real fruits and vegetables. This grant will allow us to present new and exciting opportunities for our students. When they are outside our students are smiling and enjoying themselves soaking up the sun. The students love getting their hands dirty and watching the plants grow big and strong.

Bee Girl's Kids and Bees Program

Kids love honey bees. It’s pretty much a fact. When I sat on the sunny deck of my aunt’s cabin eating honey comb straight from the hive as a toddler, a seed was planted that grew into an affinity for all things bees as an adult. I now travel the country and visit schools and summer programs with our observational bee hive (season and location permitting), activities, and tastes of honey for the kids. Seeing their faces light up gives me hope that I am helping to plant seeds of knowledge and fondness that may someday grow into a great beekeeper...
