Garden Rules to Health

Childhood obesity rates are out of control and its time for change? To combat childhood obesity, studies show that children who grow fruits or veggies, are more interested in eating them.  Eating more whole food and less processed foods combined with exercise is the path to better health and overall wellness.  A school garden supports that path to positive change in your community.

Roxbury Central School Garden

The RCS garden club, harvested its first crops in 2003 and garden activities have been integrated into core curriculum, into the after school program, the summer youth program, and the community at large, who often donate tools, perennials and seeds. Students are involved in every aspect of the garden; designing a planting schedule, selection and maintenance of the crops, monitoring soil and compost health, and harvesting the boutny for the cafeteria. The goals of the garden are to enhance student ecological and agricultural literacy and environmental awareness.

Rodgers Ranch Urban Farm & Teaching Gardens

Rodgers Ranch is a small farm tucked in the middle of Pleasant Hill, CA.

It's a place to for anyone to come and learn about how to grow edible plants, raise bees, and all things related to gardening and farming.

Rodgers Ranch was begun as a farm back in the 1800's, and we are now continuing it's legacy by using it as a place to work on a real farm.

The farm is in a quiet, safe and relaxing location, with wonderful air and good views of Mt. Diablo.

Growing Minds Farm to School Program

Like Farm to school programs nationally, ASAP’s Growing Minds Farm to School Program has also expanded. What began as a school garden program in 2002 is now a holistic Farm to School program that incorporates all four components. The program provides resources and training to teachers, schools, Child Nutrition Directors, cafeteria staff, parents, extension agents, farmers, and other community stakeholders to encourage and sustain Farm to School efforts.
