I Made That Nutrition/Gardening

We have just entered our I Made That thematic unit. One of the tracts, is "I Made That Nutrition" We have broken that down to Gardening, Nutrition Science, Cooking Skills, Culture, etc... 

Skokie School Courtyard Garden & Happy Tillers Garden Club

In 2015 - 2016, Happy Tillers Garden Club staff and students collaborated to design, build, construct, and implement an extended school year organic gardening program. An indoor nursery was created to raise the seedlings, which were transplanted in April and May. Every child planted a seed in the spring, so that when they returned in the fall they could witness a physical manifestation of our school community. Produce was donated to the New Trier Township Food Pantry to support the nutrition of local residents.

Joan Austin School Garden

We have a school garden with 8 raised bed boxes.  Through a Fiskar grant we got the garden planted and growing for this summer 2016.  Teachers will collaborate on how to use the garden beds for the coming year Sept-June 2016-17.  An urban forest is in the planning stages, and is going to be added on the same site as the garden.

DC Bilingual Public Charter School

DC Bilingual PCS is a spanish-english bilingual school serving DC students in PreK-5th grade. We have a spacious outdoor classroom with an herb garden, an edible garden and cooking space, butterfly and pollinator gardens, and more. Our garden is a rich educational space that supports learning in all subject areas in addition to being an important green, growing haven for our urban students and families.

Blue Adobe Project dba Sky Islands school

Sky Islands is an eco-focused independent public high school, non-profit and part of the Local First Arizona movement, and working to develop a 12-acre urban campus sustainably using permaculture practices.  We are in the process of developing a garden kitchen program and bringing our school kitchen up to code to work as a teaching kitchen.  We are developing cooking classes so that students can prepare slow food, healthy lunches with the help of local farmer's markets and the Tucson Food Bank.  By the end of this year we should have a producing seasonal garden from which to pick our own fo

Quincy Plumas Charter School

We are in our first year of starting the garden program and have been doing everything with our students, from laying the irrigation to building the raised beds, hoop house and tool shed! We have even milled some of our wood for the tool shed and sitting areas.We have an incredible quarter acre with excellent sun exposure and access to water. We are experimenting with various organic and permaculture techniques, including vermiculture, hugelkultur, mulching, plant tea fertilizer, etc.

Captain Planet Foundation

The mission of the Captain Planet Foundation is to give the next generation of environmental stewards an active understanding and love for the natural world in which they live.

For close to twenty-five years, we have been activating generations of environmentally literate citizens empowered to protect and sustain the natural systems upon which all life depends. Through our four main program areas, CPF invests in high-quality, solution-based programs that inspire and teach youth to become collaborators and agents of change.

Torrey Pines Elementary School Garden

Torrey Pines Elementary School garden provides an outdoor classroom setting that allows students and teachers access to an active garden resource. The goals of the program are the integration of science curriculum aligned with Next Generation Science Standards as well as Common Core aligned curriculum using the garden as a resource. The garden program is also certified in the San Diego Unified School District garden to cafe program where students grow and harvest produce for the school salad bar.

Mary's Munchies

 

 

 

Mary’s Munchies is a one of a kind school cafeteria located at St Mary’s College in Auckland as an alternative to fast food/commercial tuck shop and offers a much more nutritious, holistic experience to the students and staff at St Mary’s College.

Port Townsend School District Farm to School

 

We serve all students in Port Townsend school district, approximately 1,110 students. Our values include place-based learning with hands in the dirt and cooking with whole foods. We support our learners in exploring nutrition education, plant-based science and real food as a tool for teamwork, health and holistic wellness. Ultimately, we teach respect for the gardens and for each other by guiding our students to become stewards of the Earth and their community.
