Garden Classrooms

George B. Armstrong School of International Studies

The goal is give students a hands-on learning environment. They will learn about the life cycle of plants in the classroom and then they will be able to put into practice what they learn. Each grade level will have a different focus from planting seeds to harvesting produce. We also hope to include parents and the community in the project.

Garfield Elementary School

Garfield Elementary aims to expand the school garden to be an outdoor library where students can explore different areas of the curriculum while learning about plants and gardening. By planting maintaining and harvesting various plants students will develop social skills such as cooperation persistence and problem-solving. Constructing raised beds will allow community partner volunteers to work with students to serve the school by tending the garden.

Gardiner Regional Middle School

We are hoping to greatly expand the GRMS students' exposure to gardening. We would like to use our three newly donated and constructed raised beds to provide hands-on learning across all grades and subjects. The garden produce will supplement the food served in the school cafeteria. This grant will provide us with rain barrels and fencing which are necessary due to the location of our garden. Our garden is over 500ft from the building and is surrounded by brush.

Gardening Together

Gardening Together is a our program with Emmanuel that will offer youth.a hands on opportunity about: planting healthy foods and preparation to harvest time. The budgeting training benefits their families and create good relationships with adults in their community. We will work with other organizations to educate our youth before planting time begins. The youth will also have an opportunity to identify the type of fruits and vegetables they want to plant.

Gams Tech Magnet School

The goal is to create The Healthy Snack Garden. It will provide healthy fruits and vegetables that GAMS students can choose as a healthy alternative. As our school evolves into a K-8 building we will incorporate the Home and Careers classes into the project. Stone Soup would remain as a cornerstone of the garden project. As the garden becomes more infused into the curriculum our plan is to reach out to the community for future materials supplies and volunteers for summer maintenence.

Galindo Elementary School

This year a team of 8 from Galindo with additional community support has assembled and are committed to working with the community of Galindo to create a community garden. Goals for our gardens will be to create pride ownership and responsibility in and for our community and earth empower children and community members in their health to supplement our classroom curriculum and to purposefully use the green space at our school to show children the experience of gardening and nature.

Galileo School of Math & Science

We envision the area surrounding the greenhouse as a vibrant and engaging educational space for our students as well as the community. To that end we hope to expand beyond the greenhouse to include one acre of outdoor production beds areas for student research and dedicated education plots. The addition will significantly enhance production yields for the school cafeteria and class projects while increasing the amount of available space for student projects and community engagement.

Gaithersburg Elementary School

The tabletop gardens and all of our supplies are currently being loaned to us by Green Kids. This grant provide our school with our own tabletop gardens and supplies as well as a dedicated water source in the courtyard from a rain barrel to continue gardening with our students in future years..We would also like to use this project as a way to get parents involved in the school and show the families how to grow their own vegetables on their balconies.

Gadsden Elementary School

The garden is a part of our learning centers for young children who help plant tend and harvest. Produce is used to supplement three meals served to children daily sent home with families and in our monthly "Beautiful Food Project" which teaches parents working with their children how to create healthy inexpensive and accessible meals using fresh fruits and vegetables.

Friends School of Atlanta

The garden grant will allow our school to further it's existing programs and promote cross curricular learning. Our planned development would allow our elementary and middle school students to work together and build community within the school and beyond. We also plan to further develop our programs for soil enrichment water harvesting and composting.
