Academic Classrooms

Douglas HS Plant Science

We are starting a Plant Science class with the intent to spend half of the instruction time in the classroom and half outside in the greenhouses and former agriculture education area.  I would like to plant a gleening garden for our low-income community.  We would like to provide food for others as well as volunteer opportunities for our students.

Earth Champs

We are beginning an organic garden project this year of native and Florida-friendly edible plants with a focus on sustainability and peace practices, in line with the principles of the Earth Charter  and its family division, Earth Champs (www.earthcharterus.org).  We integrate music, art, and science studies into the garden-centric curriculum.

Camp Kitchen & Harvest

Camp Kitchen & Harvest seeks to teach youth the value of gardening, cooking, and healthy eating to empower them to reach their goals.

True North Academy Garden

The goal is to teach children how to grow foods and how to make proper nutrition choices that includes fresh, whole foods.

Alaska Farm to School

The Farm to School (FTS) program is designed to offer expertise and support to all areas of the state to pursue farm to school activities and interests. The prevailing program goal is having product produced and/or harvested in Alaska available in the school food environment. We hope that through a variety of outreach efforts, we will increase the procurement and use of food grown in the state by public schools.

Garden Project

We are teaching 1st and 2nd graders where food comes from.

Springdale Park Elementary School

Springdale Park Elementary School is part of Atlanta Public Schools. SPARK was built as a certified LEED Gold school with the unique feature of a roof-top garden. The building was designed by Perkins+Will and has won the Atlanta Urban Design Commission Award of Excellence, the AIA Georgia Design Award, and the USGBC Award for Excellence in Sustainability in 2010. It was recently highlighted by the United States Green Building Council through their "High Performance, Healthy Schools" program for both their physical resources and their programming.

Blooming Heights Edible Schoolyard & Outdoor Classroom

Our Mission

The mission of Blooming Heights Edible Schoolyard is to support academic achievement and promote healthy nutrition for students in the Columbia Heights Public School District. As a district-wide organic school garden, Blooming Heights is a resource for all teachers and students to use as a living laboratory and outdoor classroom to enhance class lessons and curriculum. The garden is also open to community members as a space to learn about growing nutritious food and sustainable gardening.
