Upper Elementary

Escondido Sprouts

We are in the beginning stages of developing our garden program.  Currently, students can attend the Garden Club once a week during the lunch hour.

Park Avenue School/Community Garden

The Park Avenue School/Community Garden was built by the families in our school community.  We now have 9 raised beds as well as Woolly Pockets hanging on our fence.  We grow a variety of vegetables-- lettuces, carrots, spinach, radishes, cucumbers, kale, swiss chard, garlic, potatoes, herbs and more.  The children are involved in all aspects of gardening from planting the seeds to harvesting the vegetables.  We have supplied our school cafeteria with produce and during the summer months families volunteer to take care of the garden.

Nurture

Nurture’s mission is to educate kids and families about healthy eating with the goal of helping them lead longer, healthier lives. We empower family members of all ages (children, teens and adults) with the tools and resources needed to prepare healthy and delicious meals, even when faced with limited time and budget. We work in schools to teach students the basics of good nutrition in a fun and interactive way.

Tools we provide to families include:

-Education (cooking classes, nutrition education)

-Philanthropy (cooking equipment, food)

Growing Gardens

Growing Gardens digs at the root of hunger in Portland, Oregon. We organize hundreds of volunteers to build organic, raised bed vegetable gardens in backyards, front yards, side yards and even on balconies. We support low income households for three years with seeds, plants, classes, mentors and more. Our Youth Grow after school garden clubs grow the next generation of veggie eaters and growers! Through Learn & Grow workshops and work parties, we teach gardeners all about growing, preparing and preserving healthful food while respecting the health of the environment.

Billings Forge Community Works

Billings Forge Community Works (BFCW) envisions a strong, stable and vibrant Frog Hollow where all residents have access to healthy and affordable food; where all youth have access to quality education and enrichment programming; and where there are job opportunities for all neighborhood residents.

BFC W is a driving force for community participation and empowerment in Frog Hollow through promoting access to healthy food; engaging youth; and developing employment opportunities and economically sustainable social enterprises.

Washington Youth Garden

The Washington Youth Garden uses the garden cycle as a tool to enrich science learning, inspire environmental stewardship and cultivate healthy food choices in youth and families. We partner with local schools to deliver garden science classroom lessons and establish school garden programs.  We also deliver three programs at our 40+ year old demonstration garden in the U.S. National Arboretum: our field trip program, SPROUT (Science Program Reaching OUT), our Green Teen Leadership Program, and our Family Garden Days.

Toyota Evergreen Learning Grounds

Over the last 20 years, Evergreen’s nation-wide Learning Grounds Program has brought school communities together to transform barren school grounds into healthy, natural and creative outdoor classrooms. By planting trees, shrubs and vines, and adding shade, seating and heritage vegetable gardens, learning opportunities come alive.

The Downtown School Greenhouse / Container Garden

We are a school located in downtown Winston-Salem, NC.  Our school serves students in pre-K through 8th grade.  We currently have a greenhouse on the roof of our school and a container garden.
