D.C. School Garden Program

The DC Office of the State Superintendent of Education's School Gardens Program (SGP) team assists schools in building and maintaining school gardens and provides training and technical assistance to teachers in utilizing school gardens as a teaching tool The SGP also oversees the administration of the DC School Garden Grant, assists schools in applying for the US Department of Education Green Ribbon Schools Award, and assists in the planning and implementation of District-wide events such as Growing Healthy Schools Week and Strawberries and Salad Greens Day.

Bioponica

Bioponica™ is a research, design and installation company with a business plan model located at two sister garden sites in West End Atlanta, Ga:  The Outdoor Activity Center at Bush Mountains.  Bioponica creates supply systems and resources to improve the art and science of sustainable farming -- bringing greater nutrition, education and jobs to communities and individuals across the country.

2012 Youth Culinary Tour

The 2012 Youth Culinary Tour is a cooking demonstration hosted by young culinary artists (ages 18 & under) during the farmers market at urban garden sites located in our three target market areas every Third Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The goal is for kids to teach kids how to make healthy snacks and better decisions regarding food intake that lead to healthier lifestyles and disease prevention (childhood diabetes, obesity, and behavior problems).

Chinati Foundation Garden

The Chinati Foundation is a contemporary art museum created by artist Donald Judd in Marfa, far West Texas. The museum presents large, permanent installations by twelve artists and is based on Judd’s interest in the relationship between art, architecture, and the surrounding high desert landscape. Chinati hosts special exhibitions; artist residencies; public programs by contemporary visual and performing artists, writers, and scholars; and youth and adult studio classes.

AQUA TERRA kids!

AQUA TERRA kids! is dedicated to providing nutritious, delicious school lunches that will inspire a lifetime of making good dietary choices. With a focus on fresh, locally sourced ingredients served in re-useable containers, the kids! lunch program strives to prevent food-related health problems as well as support a sustainable, green environment. It also offloads the burden of preparing and packaging these lunches from parents who want to do the right thing but are pressed for time.

 

Catskill Edible Garden Project

The Catskill Edible Garden Project, (growing the next generation of food entrepreneurs), works with area schools to create vegetable gardens that will increase access to healthy local food. The program is complemented with educational initiatives related to food resources, awareness of nutrition and agricultural or food related career options.

The Catskill Edible Garden Project offers the opportunity for a hands on youth development experience and exposure to food and agriculture as important aspects of our community, culture and potential career opportunities.

King School Courtyard Garden

 The King School Courtyard garden teaches health, nutrition and science to a diverse school population in inner Northeast Portland.  Begun this year, it is part of the school's International Baccalaureate program.
