The Farm at Effie Kokrine Early College Charter School

The Farm at Effie Kokrine Early College Charter School is a special project of Effie Kokrine FFA. Students participate in a summer "Introduction to Sustainable Agriculture" class and grow a one-acre vegetable garden, selling the vegetables at farmer's market. During the school year, FFA students take classes like Fiber Arts and raise angora rabbits for fiber. In the future, we hope to expand to raise livestock such as chickens and goats and have a full-time vocational agriculture program.

We are located in Vallejo Ca. and have been gardening since 2012. We are fledgling group but are growing day by day.

We are growing winter vegetables at this time but maintain a summer program as well.

Our charter school is comprised of middle school through high school.

Our main garden is located on the middle school campus but are in the middle of installing a high school garden on the high school side.

Our hope is that we can link up with other programs thoughout our town, state and eventually the nation.

FoodCorps Hawaii

The Kohala Center is an independent, not-for-profit, community-based center for research, conservation, and education. By focusing on the needs of island residents and the research interests of our university and agency partners, three core areas of work have emerged: energy self-reliance, food self-reliance, and ecosystem health. Through these partnerships and by recognizing that we work in a model environment, we help communities on the island, in the Pacific, and around the world thrive—ecologically, economically, culturally, and socially.

Woodlands Secondary School

Our school goal is to provide an educational opportunity for a wide variety of students within our community. We are hoping to establish a large food garden and orchard at the front of the school as a way to engage those students to build school pride and increase community engagement. The garden will also serve as a sustainable food source for a population in need and will offer additional skill based learning opportunities for students at the school. We hope to grow fruit, vegetables and herbs as well as plant a variety of fruit trees to rpovide food for growing school food programs.

Franklin Elementary

Recognizing that 75% of our students are on free or reduced lunch program, our goal is to grow food in our school garden that low income families in our community can use. Students will learn how to grow food and be encouraged to start gardens at home.

Another goal is to teach seed-saving techniques that will produce pure seed for sustainability of our school garden as well as for student gardens at home.

Shorecliffs Middle School

Our goal is to create a classroom outdoors, in a garden environment where we can teach middle school curriculum through the dynamics of gardening and horticulture. Our garden allows more time outside in nature which helps children grow lean, healthy bodies, and increases attention spans and school performance. We want to create a deeper understanding of natural systems, so students become better stewards of the Earth. Our vision is to provide positive experiences with fruits and vegetables and connect this to academic success through multiple subject areas.

Smithfield High School Fruit For Though program

There are four major goals for the the Smithfield High School Edible Forest Garden. 1) A built in research element provides long term interactive educational opportunities - There is so much that we need to know about Edible Forest Gardens and so much learning they can offer over their lifespans. Similar gardens at CCRI and URI make a bridge to higher education. 2) Aesthetically Pleasing gardens entice students and visitors into a studious atmosphere. -We want it to be beautiful, and have all the major elements and concepts clearly labeled.
