High School

American International School of Utah

American International School of Utah is a new Public Charter School. I would love to help the students start a garden and to learn how to care for the garden. I would also like them to learn how to use the items they prepare and learn the science of plants. Our school is a K-12 school. Its doors opened today 9/2/2014 for the first time. We are located in the old 49th street Galleria Building in the heart of the Salt Lake Valley. We are a technology based school. I want students to also have a love of the earth and gardening.

IDEA Edinburg

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Edinburg RGV proposes to create a Garden to Table Culinary Art Program designed to provide hands-on opportunities for students to learn about sustainable living practices. Club members & their families will become experienced in gardening and will be active in the harvest, composting and recycling of much of the foods used in the program. The seeds planted and harvested by those participating in Horticulture will be passed on to those club members who are in the Culinary program.

Sutherland Secondary School

The Edible Garden Project is partnering with the North Vancouver School District to develop an innovative outdoor classroom and revitalize under-used school land. Our goal is to transform one-third of an acre of lawn into a "schoolyard market garden". The garden will be managed by the North Shore Neighbourhood House's Edible Garden Project, sell produce grown to sustain operations, invite classes to participate in the garden and learn outdoors, and engage the community with events and volunteer opportunities.

ReNEW Schaumburg Elementary

The goal of our garden is to improve our students, families, and community's health. The garden provides an opportunity for students to learn about nutrition. Watching fruits and vegetables grow increases the likelihood they will eat more fruits and vegetables, become more knowledgeable about nutrition, and develop ownership over their own health. Through gardening, students are given the opportunity to learn and explore. They can try new things and engage in hands-on learning and physical activity.

Newman Academy

The goal of this garden is to teach and inspire students at our school about living healthy lives through growing their own organic fruits and vegetables! In our modern, fast paced society, many students never see green growing things in their daily environment. Enabling our students to see these gardens in the classroom and through the curriculum will provide a constant source of inspiration and refreshment for students, acting as a powerful visible metaphor for growth and transformation.

Learning Gate Community School

One of the goals of Learning Gate Community School's Seed to Soup Organic Garden is to enrich academic instruction by integrating gardening throughout the curriculum. By tending the garden on a weekly basis, students from kindergarten through 8th grade are actively involved in the entire garden cycle, including: planning, opening, cultivating the soil, maintaining compost, planting and harvesting vegetables and herbs.

Orchard Farm High School

This grant will make possible a garden that will be accessible to students in grades kindergarten through twelve, as well as the community. Our team has planned opportunities for students of all abilities to experience and participate in the garden through the district's curriculum. This is a new garden, located on our school district’s main campus which is home to an elementary, middle and high school. Its proximity to three school buildings will provide learning opportunities for all ages of students.

Gibbs High School

The goal of our garden-based classroom initiative (GBCI) is to raise horticultural awareness amongst the underrepresented student population at Gibbs High School in St. Petersburg, Florida (i.e., 75% characterized as socio-economically disadvantaged). Many of them reside in impoverished areas which that lack adequate access to fresh, healthy, affordable food (e.g., food deserts). Focus participants for the GBCI will be 9th and 10th grade Earth Science and Biology students (the latter subject to a rigorous state administered end of course exam).
