High School

Ambassadors of the Earth

Our mission is to nurture the KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and VALUES essential to sustainable living in and out of school. We do this by exploring the connections between Classroom, Lunchroom & School Garden with children ages 5 to 18. Our community is our classroom and precious resource. Growing with our gardens into a blossoming community!

The Learning Garden

Randall's island Learning Garden, created as a result of the combined efforts of the Randall's Island Park Alliance and GrowNYC is a 15,000 square foot urban farm that aims to provide schools and groups who lack on-site or proximal open space with the experience of environmental education and nutritional learning by growing, harvesting, cooking and eating garden-fresh produce.

Garden by Knight

I am the Career Technical Education culinary instructor for an inner city high school. We lost our horticulture program and since I have a background in horticulture the school has giving me the green houses and part of the campus to use for my program. We are establishing a student-run café where I'd like to serve the produce we grow. In addition, due to the fact that we are in a low socioeconomic area of the city and have a large Hispanic and Asian student body, I also wanted to start a community garden on campus to get parents involved in their child's school.

Harvest Hudson Valley

From Seed to Table

We live in a rural district on the Oregon coast. We are a very small school district with our brand new garden. Our garden, which includes cold frames and raise beds will serve our 200 students K - 12. The children have a wonderful opportunity to actively get their own hands into the soil and learn where their food comes from. They learn the science behind soil testing, plant physiology and development, seed germination, and plant production. Herbs and spices grown in the garden will be used in our culinary arts projects, and shared with students and families.
