Alaska Farm to School

The Farm to School (FTS) program is designed to offer expertise and support to all areas of the state to pursue farm to school activities and interests. The prevailing program goal is having product produced and/or harvested in Alaska available in the school food environment. We hope that through a variety of outreach efforts, we will increase the procurement and use of food grown in the state by public schools.

Blooming Heights Edible Schoolyard & Outdoor Classroom

Our Mission

The mission of Blooming Heights Edible Schoolyard is to support academic achievement and promote healthy nutrition for students in the Columbia Heights Public School District. As a district-wide organic school garden, Blooming Heights is a resource for all teachers and students to use as a living laboratory and outdoor classroom to enhance class lessons and curriculum. The garden is also open to community members as a space to learn about growing nutritious food and sustainable gardening.

About the Garden

School Greens

Inspired by the Bezos Scholars Program at the Aspen Ideas Festival, School Greens, is tackling the issue of a healthier future – from starting “Meatless Mondays,” to make students aware of the impacts of their food choices, to launching a rooftop garden this May to increase access to healthy food and green space. We’re changing school policy, and in the process we’re hoping to change the mindsets of our community members.

City of Oakland Community Gardens Program

The City of Oakland's Community Gardens Program provides 16 community gardens and 17 youth programs citywide.  Our youth programs provide children ages 4-13 with the opportunity to learn where their food comes from, growing organic herbs and vegetables for cooking onsite at recreation centers, or at home with their families.  Please contact program coordinator Peter Collier at 510.238.2197 for more information, or send him an email at pcollier@oaklandnet.com.  You can also visit a City of Oakland recreation center to see how you can get involved

Edible School Garden Designs

As a cookbook author and kitchen garden designer, I see opportunities for schools to create beautiful gardens that go beyond growing basic food. I work with school gardeners who seek creative ways to build edible garden areas to invite the whole school community to spend time outdoors connecting to the food that is grown miraculously from a small seed.

Tam High Edible Garden

This program is an idea that just popped into my head.

Patterson High School Garden Program

Patterson High School already has a small organic school garden of two raised beds.  Currently, a group of school social workers are maintaining the garden, and selling the produce to staff in order to generate further garden funding.

I would like to expand the garden and incorporate students and classrooms into it.  There is desire for this among staff.

Acre Gourmet

Acre Gourmet works with local purveyors to cook healthy, sustainable food on-site at schools in the Bay Area. We design and manage distinctive on-site lunch programs with the goal of integrating the school community and delicious, heathy food. In all of our kitchens we use the freshest, least processed ingredients available and whenever possible use organic products that are naturally low in sugar and saturated fats. Our menus are diverse, balanced and exceed USDA guidelines for nutrition.
