About the Program:

Harvest Hudson Valley cultivates edible education in the Hudson Valley region of New York state.

We provide and promote a dynamic, engaging and instructive 1/2 acre outdoor classroom for the education and pleasure of students at a Mill Road Elementary, a K-5 elementary school in the Red Hook Central School District. Here, we provide a living laboratory for hands-on learning experiences across the curriculum that supports the mastery of the educational standards; teaches children about nutrition, eating habits, and growing food; helps children develop a deeper appreciation for their environment, their community, and one another; promotes meaningful outdoor activity; and, fosters cross-grade relationships and connections to the wider Hudson Valley agricultural community.

We are developing a district-wide Cooking Program in collaboration with our district's Wellness Committee and Athletics Department for all students K-12. In addition, we are promoting school lunch reform in all of our cafeterias under the leadership of our Food Services Director. As of the Fall 2012 we have salad bars in all our district's cafeterias!
