Windham Raymond School District

Each school (6) in our district have Gardens that the student's planted. We serve the fresh garden vegetable for our school lunch and on our salad bars.

We have nutrition education classes, where our nutrition and wellness coordinator goes into classrooms to interact with students and teach lessons on nutrition and food.

We are also starting a cooking club for students of all ages this fall to get involved. We will have taste tests to have the students more involved in what goes on the menu.

Napa Valley Montessori

The Napa Valley Montessori school has just started it's first year of lower elementary education.  We are a small, traditional Montessori school incorporating the garden classroom into specialized science and everyday lessons.  We have also started an afterschool program with garden science, cooking, art and other classes. We hope to create our own Edible School Yard in American Canyon.

The HEAL Project

The HEAL Project develops, implements, and supports hands-on, outdoor curriculum focused on health, the environment, and agriculture. We teach students how their choices affect their health, the
environment, and their communities.

Valley View School District Edible School Gardens

Among the many benefits of school gardening, the ultimate goal of the Valley View School District is to utilize the garden to cultivate healthier eating habits in students. Studies show that children who are involved in edible school gardens have increased their daily vegetable and fruit consumption by 2.5 servings per day (American Dietetic Association, 2007). Furthermore, growing and harvesting their own food increases children’s willingness to try new fruits and vegetables and improves their knowledge and attitudes toward these foods.

Greenhouse Gardening

We are growing vegetables and herbs in our recently built greenhouses.  We then prepare and eat them with the Life Skills Teacher to promote healthy eating habits.  This program involves the third - fifth grade students at our school planting the seeds, transplanting them into the greenhouses, and harvesting the mature plants before preparing them in the life skills classroom.
