Scholars With Shovels at The Grande Innovation Academy

Scholars with Shovels is a community garden based out of The Grande Innovation Academy Schoolyard.  It is currently 2000 sq/ft with 10 garden boxes measuring 2x6.  We also have 6 chickens that were raised from chicks and are fed daily from the garden scraps (radish tops, pepper plant leaves, etc).  They roam free for about 5 hours during the school day and scholars are responsible for herding them back into their coup.  All grade levels have planted in the garden and continue to plant and harvest produce.  Recently we added an aquaponics garden, complete with Tilapia.

Nourishing The North Shore

Nourishing the North Shore (NNS) is a collaborative effort of the Newburyport Health Department, YWCA of Greater Newburyport and the Newburyport Learning Enrichment Center. Our mission at NNS is to build a resilient and connected community and ensure access to fresh healthy produce for all of those in the greater Newburyport area. Hunger affects our health in more than just a physical sense; it has a major impact on mental and social well-being.

Place-based Learning and Community Engagement in Schools

Who We Are

PLACES is an exciting collaborative venture between schools along the Wai'anae Coast of Oahu, Hawaii, the University of Hawaii, Manoa's Office of Student Equity, Excellence & Diversity (SEED), and the local community of Wai'anae and Oahu. The project is funded through the Department of Education, Native Hawaiian Education Program.

What We Do

New Heights in Learning

New Heights in Learning creates hands-on, real-world learning environments in a wide range of settings. Our model of learning is centered on motivating and engaging both achieving and underachieving students by connecting meaningful hands-on learning experiences to classroom activities and state standards. This is done by connecting education to the context of real world experiences.

Green City Growers

Green City Growers transforms unused space into thriving urban farms, providing our clients with immediate access to nutritious food, while revitalizing city landscapes and inspiring self-sufficiency. We envision a world where rooftops and vacant lots become common and productive places to grow food – an agricultural revolution for a healthier nation.

Green Animals Edible Schoolyard

Green Animals Topiary Gardens is the oldest and most northern topiary garden in the United States. It is among the exceptional collection of house museums and landscapes protected, preserved and presented by the non-profit organization, The Preservation Society of Newport County. Green Animals remains as a rare example of a self-sufficient estate combining formal topiaries, vegetable and fruit gardens, and a Victorian house overlooking Narragansett Bay in Portsmouth, RI.

The HAPPY Organization Inc

The HAPPY Organization inspires generations of healthy, active, positive, purposeful youth by giving them direct and positive experiences with healthy food, nutrition education, fun physical activities, and social and emotional activities.

Our Mission

Bears Care Garden - Beachwood Elementary School Garden Project

Visit us online at http://bearscaregarden.com

The Bears Care Garden, Beachwood Elementary School Garden Project is made possible by a garden committee comprised of a group of parents, school administrators, teachers and community members who wanted to start and maintain a school garden.

West Melbourne School For Science

At WMSS we offer gardening on the activity wheel.  Students receive gardening and nutrition lessons weekly.  We let 4-6 grade students choose their activity on Mondays and Tuesday's for extra gardening.  In the program, we plant seasonal vegetables and harvest when ready.  We give harvest to staff to make salads, salsa, smoothies and other healthy snacks for students and staff to enjoy.  We plan to extend out to our community in the near future through farmers markets where WMSS student gardeners supply the produce.
