Pre-Kindergarten

Rhode Island School for the Deaf Community Garden

Rhode Island School for the Deaf is a small program for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students. We are a pre-kindergarten through high school program. We are so fortunate to have a beautiful organic garden on our property. The students designed and fabricated all 17 4 x 4 square foot gardens. The teachers use the garden for academic purposes in literacy, vocabulary development, math and science. Some students use the garden to learn how to follow directions and make healthy meals from the garden produce.

Grow Pittsburgh

Grow Pittsburgh's school garden program was born in 2006 as a pilot program in two Pittsburgh Public Schools.  Over the years we have seen the interest and demand for school garden programming grow signficantly.  We currently support fifteen school gardens in the region and look forward to continuing to work with more schools through a bi-annual application process.

Earth Champs

We are beginning an organic garden project this year of native and Florida-friendly edible plants with a focus on sustainability and peace practices, in line with the principles of the Earth Charter  and its family division, Earth Champs (www.earthcharterus.org).  We integrate music, art, and science studies into the garden-centric curriculum.

Camp Kitchen & Harvest

Camp Kitchen & Harvest seeks to teach youth the value of gardening, cooking, and healthy eating to empower them to reach their goals.

Sproutside

Sproutside is the Flint Children's Museum's outdoor area which features an organic garden. The children who visit the museum help to plant, tend, and harvest the produce. We grow a variety of foods so that children gain exposure to all sorts of things such as okra, brussel sprouts, cabbage, and eggplants. Families are welcome to taste any of the produce, and to take vegetables home to enjoy. We use the garden for many educational opportunities such as teaching about important vitamins and healthy eating habits.

Alaska Farm to School

The Farm to School (FTS) program is designed to offer expertise and support to all areas of the state to pursue farm to school activities and interests. The prevailing program goal is having product produced and/or harvested in Alaska available in the school food environment. We hope that through a variety of outreach efforts, we will increase the procurement and use of food grown in the state by public schools.

Blooming Heights Edible Schoolyard & Outdoor Classroom

Our Mission

The mission of Blooming Heights Edible Schoolyard is to support academic achievement and promote healthy nutrition for students in the Columbia Heights Public School District. As a district-wide organic school garden, Blooming Heights is a resource for all teachers and students to use as a living laboratory and outdoor classroom to enhance class lessons and curriculum. The garden is also open to community members as a space to learn about growing nutritious food and sustainable gardening.

About the Garden

Firefly Garden

Our school garden was established in March 2011.  We took a unused piece of turf and transformed it into an edible school garden.  The garden is named the Firefly Garden.  John Simmons who owns the Firefly restuarants in Las Vegas donated money for its start up.  We teach using the garden as a tool.  We grow our own vegetables and herbs.  The students also compost in the garden.  We have chefs come to the school and cook with the kids using what was harvested in the garden.
