Lower Elementary

Woodland Elementary Charter School

At Woodland, our new garden program brings together our students, teachers, parents and community members. We are working together to mange a large-scale garden. Woodland is a PreK-5th grade elementary school in Sandy Springs, Georgia. We are in the process of becoming STEM Certified. Our school gardening program fits perfectly into the curriculum for every grade level, ability and every subject. Gardening provides our students with amazing hands on learning opportunities and lessons they will carry with them for a lifetime. We are a center school for students with special needs.

Pine Grove School

Our goal is to create a community supported, outdoor classroom and beautify school grounds by building a sustainable learning garden that serves the teachers and students at Pine Grove School. Our school is lacking the space to have a science lab. Through the creation of a edible learning garden, we will be providing an opportunity for all students at PGS to have access to an outdoor science lab to support our current curriculum. This will enable us to introduce a trial and error approach to learning and engage the minds of our students to problem solve through tangible results.

Pilgrim Wood Public School

To create gardens that provide an innovative means of engaging students and staff in collaborative, experiential, socially engaged, and nature-based approaches to teaching and learning; To build community amongst students, parents, staff, and surrounding community (neighbours, community groups such as Brownies/Girl Guides, and charitable organizations such as the local Food Bank)

Summerfield Waldorf School and Farm

Summerfield Waldorf School and Farm (SWSF) is a not-for-profit, preschool through 12th grade school in Sonoma County, California. We are one of the only schools in the U.S. with a working Biodynamic farm that is integrated into the curriculum (preK-12). At the farm, students have the opportunity to learn many basic skills that are rapidly becoming lost in today's industrialized society.

Cradleboard Elementary School

Our STREAM (Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Arts, & Math) Garden has a goal to introduce students to healthy eating choices. Students work closely with the Food Corps Teacher to select seeds to plant, start them indoors, & transplant them in Spring. Students built the garden last year as part of an engineering project. Since then, students have continued to maintain the garden and track growth in Math classes. Students sit on benches in the garden and write about their observations in their Science journals.

The New School of Lancaster

New School of Lancaster students are dirt-and-life-loving, curious young people who are eager to plant and savor vegetables and fruits from our school grounds. We are building food-growing and soil-growing spaces that can be used by all the students in our PreK-8 school.

Environmental Charter School

The ECS Edible Schoolyard's (ESY) mission is to build connections with students, families, and the larger community through garden and kitchen experiences that foster compassionate citizens who feel empowered to make healthy food choices for themselves and increase access to healthy food for others. ECS values the whole child and honors students’ mind, body, and spirit through its holistic approach to education.

We envision the ECS ESY to:

Carbondale Community School

The Carbondale Community School (CCS) Learning Garden and club began in spring, 2014. Carbondale Community School is a K-8 public charter school with 135 students.

H.B. Wilson Family School

With H.B Wilson’s school garden, we seek to engage students in a variety of areas that will create a healthy nutrition environment and foster improved student health. We believe that in doing so, this early learning experience in the garden will create positive relationships between healthy food and children. The school garden project enhances classroom programming to provide nutrition education and hands-on sustainable agricultural practice, provided weekly by two FoodCorps service members. The garden is an accessible and hands-on tool for teachers to use with their students.

Nightingale Montessori

Nightingale Montessori has an established cooking program with student participation that is part of our National Lunch and Breakfast Program. We have found that when children participate in the preparation of healthy food, they eat healthy food. We would like to expand this experience and include vegetables from a school garden into the cooking program. We have initiated plans to grow food to be utilized in this cooking program. We plan to expand to grow tomatoes and green beans with students.
