Damar Charter Academy

Our garden is one of the most popular activities on campus because it combines fun with academics, physical activity and learning in an outdoor setting. Many children with developmental disabilities learn best when engaged in hands-on activities. Our teachers report the garden program increases learning retention, builds relationships and develops positive socialization. Wellness, good nutrition, recycling, physical work and community service are taught and modeled by staff.

Bordewich Bray Elementary School

The goal for our garden is to educate students about growing and eating healthy foods and enriching their lives through gardening. It provides hands-on lessons that are aligned with state and national science standards. For example, students put their knowledge of life cycles into action when they plant in the garden. This grant will allow us to expand our current garden and sustain it in a more eco-friendly manner with a better irrigation system. Through garden improvements, more teachers, students and families will be able to utilize all the garden has to offer.

All Souls School

The goal of the All Souls School Garden is to enrich the school curriculum with hands-on learning experiences and to promote healthy eating habits, sustainability, and environmental stewardship.

This grant will make it possible for our students to create and enjoy a beautiful and educationally rich outdoor space.

Maurice Sendak Community School, PS 118

Principal Garraway is excited to incorporate it into the curriculum year-round in areas of healthy living, science and community service.This Greenhouse & Learning Garden will not only be a learning center for the students but will also be an anchor of 4th Avenue as it grows into being the Park Avenue of Brooklyn. The artistic value of the Greenhouse & Learning Garden will certainly be an asset to the community.

Briarcliff Elementary

This garden is a grand adventure for us. We are looking forward to using this garden to teach our children responsibility, community, and healthy choices. While we are not planning at this time to take the garden to salad bar route, this opportunity will allow children to experience creating a garden and growing food that will help them learn to make better choices for a healthy lifestyle. Because of our intention to use the food as part of a food bank, the children will experience the joy of helping others. We have a very close knit community next door to the school.

Southwest Detroit Lighthouse Charter Academy

The Lighthouse Garden seeks to complement and enhance the educational and social experience of our students. At SDLCA, we not only focus on rigorous academics but also employ a strong social curriculum. Project-based learning, such as the school garden, supports student learning and helps bridge the socio-economic and cultural divides experienced by our students. (Our student population is approximately 53% Latino, 23% White, 21% African American, and 3% Multi-racial/ Other.

Santa Fe South Schools

The goal of the school's garden is to provide a space for education both to supplement existing courses as well as facilitate the creation of additional opportunities for students and their families. Initially the garden will supplement science courses providing additional avenues of study. An after school garden club will be established to give students an opportunity to interact with the garden more intensively. This will enable students to pursue personal projects while learning alongside others.

Our goal for the garden is to make it an aesthetically exciting and interactive extension to the classroom. We want to add apple trees and honey bees to provide a more interactive garden. Over the years, our students, teachers, and parents have slowly added to the garden. We want to ultimately expand our greenhouse and grow food year-round which would be served in the lunchroom. Our greenhouse would be heated and large enough for a class to be inside working comfortably.
