Galax Elementary School

The GCPS Garden has identified four major goals.
1.The GCPS Garden will provide a cross-curricular educational place of learning to be used by Galax district schools for class and extracurricular use.
2.GCPS Garden will donate its produce to the students who qualify for free and reduced lunch to encourage healthy eating at home; additional produce will be donated to local soup kitchens to benefit the needy in the community.
3.The GCPS Garden will provide an area of recreation and learning for the summer recreation program serving the Galax area.

Vance Elementary School

The Vance Elementary Peace Garden is an outdoor learning laboratory designed to educate the whole child and community through hands-on learning that promotes environmental stewardship, character development, and healthy lifestyles. Our magnet school theme of Human Diversity and Ecology

Sinclair Elementary School

Our current goal is to revitalize the garden and nature habitat. We want to be able to consistently use it in various curriculum and encourage our students and families to learn the importance of fresh vegetables. A garden offers a great number of possibilities from learning, teaching, bringing beauty and community fellowship. It is our goal to establish our garden as a key site on our campus, a sort of outdoor learning center.

Hamlin PK-8

The goal of incorporating these gardens into our school climate is to encourage wellness and healthy eating habits among our students and families.

Columbine Elementary

The Greenhouse will enable Columbine Elementary teachers and Growing Gardens staff to teach gardening, healthy eating and food education lessons throughout the entire school year that meet the State of Colorado Learning Standards in a fun, hands-on way. We believe this will greatly benefit our student population (about 500 students annually) and translate to healthier, more successful students. The Columbine Greenhouse will also provide an excellent outdoor classroom̂

Westview Elementary School

Our garden goals are to provide our students with hands on opportunities to learn about where their food comes from, how their food choices impact their health and environment, and how to nourish themselves. In the garden students will learn the cycles of food production, share fresh picked and prepared snacks, and feel empowered to make healthier food choices.
We see a lot of highly processed nutrient poor food in our student

McMeen Elementary

We have three main goals for our school garden:

Siena Elementary School

The garden will benefit the students, as well as the community. Gardening will provide a sense of responsibility for students. The students will develop a sense of ownership as they see their hard work pay off in the fall when they harvest their crops. The garden will provide opportunities for parents and students to work together whether the job be planting, weeding, or harvesting. The garden will provide many educational opportunities for the teachers to involve their students. The garden will become an outdoor classroom for cross curricular activities.

St. Anthony Catholic School

The primary goal for our school garden is to immerse our students in the process of planting, growing and harvesting vegetables, so they may learn about and make healthy food choices. Our school is located in Mississippi, which has the highest childhood obesity rate in the United States. (http://www.childhealthdata.org/docs/nsch-docs/mississippi-pdf.pdf) Children will learn about where food comes from and what good vs. bad food can do for their bodies and minds.
