Groundwork Center for Resilient Communities

In 2014, the Groundwork Center celebrated our 10-year anniversary of farm to school programming in northwest Michigan. 

Starting with just a few activities in one school in 2004, our program now spans two Intermediate School Districts serving seven counties in Northwest Lower Michigan, reaching more than 25,000 students. 

Moose River Valley Green Team Collaborative

Fayette County Farm to School Program

The following description is a summary of our farm to school plan funded by a 2013 USDA Farm to School Program grant: To connect our schools and communities with locally and regionally produced food, and to the farmers and producers of that food, and to help students understand the connections between local food and science, agriculture, nutrition, and health.

Chicago Public Schools, District 299 Farm to School Program

The Chicago Public Schools (CPS) Nutrition Support Services and the Office of Student Health and Wellness supports a Farm to School approach for nutrition education and school gardens. A Farm to School approach can awaken students' natural curiosity and provide experiential learning opportunities across the curriculum while emphasizing nutrition lessons and educating students on the food system.

Laupahoehoe Farm to School Program

The following description is a summary of our farm to school plan funded by a 2013 USDA Farm to School Program grant: To grow organic produce, cook and serve it in our cafeteria, create a product for the open market, support local producers, and encourage career paths in agriculture, culinary arts, and environmental jobs.
