Shuman Children's Garden

The Shuman Children's Garden is a quiet learning environment located within an urban environment.  The school is comprised of over 80% free and reduced lunch.  It is also located within a food desert in our city. One child, new to the schoo,l asked, "what is a garden".  It's days like this that let me know what we do is important.  The garden not only teaches children where food comes from and how good fresh food is, but we also incorporate all other subjects into it as well.  There is a section where we plant the 3 sisters-complete with fish heads- and tie it into history standards.

Montessori Children's House of Lenawee

Hello!  I am the Executive Director of Montessori Children's House of Lenawee, a non-profit, private Montessori schoolI have recently come across some information about your organization and because one of our goals is to be fully gardening at our school, I am very interested to know more!

Valmonte School (Valmonte Early Learning Academy & Sunrise Preschool)

The Valmonte Children’s Garden is a pesticide-free zone of fruits, vegetables, flowers, herbs, worm and composting bins, a National Wildlife Federation Certified Wildlife Habitat™ for birds and butterflies as well as a sensory garden, all of which will be planted, maintained and harvested with the assistance of our students, teachers, parents and community volunteers.

The Sunshine School

The grant will be used to install two raised organic garden beds to provide hands-on learning experiences for children ages 1-5 years old. The gardens will be incorporated in the preschool curriculum to teach children about nutrition environmental awareness and working together as a team. The garden curriculum will also be used to ensure students achieve appropriate developmental benchmarks in science social studies math literacy social skills health and safety and motor skills.

The Neighborhood School

The garden goal is to boost and augment what we already have--most of what we have is entirely maintained on a voluntary basis with donated plants and vegetables. This grant would help us do more to create a high-quality gardening space for our students and our community.

Shepardson Elementary School STEMs of Learning

Students gain knowledge about vegetables and fruits which may improve attitudes toward these foods and lead to healthier choices and a greater appreciation for how their food is grown. The garden creates an appreciation for teamwork,  patience and responsibility. Students are empowered by engaging in hands on learning and practicing scientific method.

Red Lodge Public Schools

The goal of the garden is to provide youth in the Red Lodge area with an opportunity to learn about where their food comes from. As more local food moves into the schools the connection will be further strengthened when students are able to contribute and participate in the full growing cycle. Students will participate through classroom lessons in the garden after school programs and summer activities. The project will also support the community through connections with the local food bank.

PS11 The William T. Harris School

Our garden's main goal is to connect our urban students to the natural world and to introduce gardening with edible plants. Outside of school the PS11 elementary students have very little access to interact with nature and few have participated in growing food. The school garden successfully provides tastings and provides a small amount of vegetables and herbs to the school kitchen. We grow inside in the classrooms, on the 2nd floor roof space and around the play area downstairs. We have a well established compost and rainwater catchment.

ESYNOLA, Langston Hughes Academy

From day one of the Dreamkeeper garden's inception, life in the garden has been fast at work – growing, sharing and spreading seeds. Langston Hughes Academy's Dreamkeeper garden is tucked away behind the school, which makes it a perfect place for plants, animals and critters to thrive. As the school community develops its expansion plan for the garden, it continues to grow and change, endearing itself to all who visit it.
