Johnson Elementary School

 Johnson Elementary School is a part of  the Charlottesville School District. City Schoolyard Garden, a non-profit organization. serves as an umbrella organization to create and manage edible schoolyards at all of the city's schools.  Presently in Charlottesville, City Schoolyard Garden oversees, maintains and provides garden-based curriculum for six elementary schools, Johnson, Greenbrier, Jackson-Via, Venable and Clark and one middle school, Buford.

Virginia School for the Deaf and the Blind CROPS Project

VSDB provides an environment which fosters self-confident students who are contributing citizens and life-long learners and to be a resource of excellence for the communities of Virginia who serve students who are deaf/hard of hearing, blind/vision impaired and deafblind.  In 2012 the CROPS Project was founded.  CROPS stands for Cooperation, Respect, Opportunity, Perserverance, Skills and uses horticulture and gardening to reinforce academic learning, provide a fun recreational activity, and underscore the importance of making healthy food choices.

GREEN HUNTER GARDEN ART

Hello GREEN HUNTERS!

-Create Upcycled Garden Art from recycled treasures at no cost.

-Transform recyclables and household items into abstract art, animals, bird feeders, etc. 

-Design, build and furnish outdoor living spaces with distressed wood, and upcycled materials.

-Conserve animal habitat.

Hawai'i Island School Garden Network

 The Hawai'i Island School Garden Network supports all schools, teachers, and communities on Hawai'i Island to reconnect students to the land, the 'Aina, the source of healthy food and biodiverse ecosystems.  

Fruitful Minds

Fruitful Minds is a non profit organization providing nutrition education to youth in need in Alameda and Contra Costa Counties.  The program recruits students from UC Berkeley and Saint Mary's College to deliver a customized nutrition education curriculum through classroom, afterschool or summer programs.  Classes include assemblies, 20-60 minute classes and parent education seminars.

Billy Mitchell Elementary School

Billy Mitchell Elementary School is one of eight schools in the Lawndale Elementary School District, Los Angeles County, California. We are continuously evolving our curriculum and instructional program to meet the needs of our students. A reflection of that is in our garden and nutrition program. All of our students are the stewards of this garden under the guidance and supervision of our Master Gardener and parent and community volunteers. Experience has taught us that student ownership of a garden is a key to success.

SANCHEZ COLLEGE PREPARATORY SCHOOL

 

Learning By Doing At Sanchez School In San Francisco’s Mission District: Nutrition, Science and Community

 

Sanchez College Preparatory School’s vision for connecting classroom learning with education outside deepened during a visit to Sanchez School by Carlo Petrini, Founder of an international organization known as Slow Food. Mr. Petrini* and Dr. Isola, the former principal of Sanchez College Preparatory School, developed a School Community Development tool that incorporated five key elements.

Growing Together

 We are a public charter Montessori school located in the San Francisco Bay Area and established in 2002.  Our school garden started as just one raised bed and now houses ten raised beds of edibles including culinary herbs and seasonal vegetables, in addition to over a dozen fruit trees, a greenhouse, and native and drought tolerant shrubs.  All students at the school have an hour or more of garden time each week and take care of the routine maintenance ncluding watering, weeding, mulching and other chores as necessary.

Detroit Leadership Academy

We are a Detroit Charter School with a small 12 plot garden which is planted and harvested by the   students each season.
