Fruitful Minds

Fruitful Minds is a non profit organization providing nutrition education to youth in need in Alameda and Contra Costa Counties.  The program recruits students from UC Berkeley and Saint Mary's College to deliver a customized nutrition education curriculum through classroom, afterschool or summer programs.  Classes include assemblies, 20-60 minute classes and parent education seminars.

Woodstock North High School Garden

The Woodstock North High School Garden is dedicated to creating a successful, sustainable outdoor classroom using organic methods, for the benefit of the students, staff, and community. Children learn to enjoy gardening in a positive manner, learn healthy eating habits, and learn how to use gardening to survive and prosper in the world, through decision-making, collaboration, and responsibility. The garden provides food for the school cafeteria, culinary arts, and an in-house food pantry for students of needy families.

Goler Community Garden at the Downtown Health Plaza

  Our garden is located at a safety net health clinic has 65,000 patient visits a year.  The clinic serves Pediatric, Ob/Gyn and Adult Medicine patients.  The garden provides fresh produce to the clinics at no charge as well as providing learning opportunities for all the neighborhood.  There are regular workdays for all volunteers with special times for instruction on gardening.  Also there are cooking classes for all ages.

Greenbelt Middle School at the Springhill Lake Garden Outdoor Classroom

Since the Three Sisters Demonstration Gardens project sprouted in 2010, Chesapeake Education, Arts, and Research Society (CHEARS) has established outdoor classroom gardens that are multi-generational, handicapped accessible, beautifully artistic, and are a great example showing how to grow local healthy food at home.

St.Mary's Nutrition Center/ Lots to Gardens

 As one of the newest health services offered by St. Mary's Health System, the Nutrition Center works to improve the nutritional status of all Maine residents. The Center strives to be a community resource and works towards promoting overall community wellness and providing all people with access to nutritious food, the opportunity to learn and implement healthy and safe eating practices, the support to make lifestyle changes that reduce the risk of nutrition related diseases and the ability to promote personal food security through growing one’s own food.

North Carolina Cooperative Extension of Warren County

 North Carolina Cooperative Extension partners with communities to deliver education and technology that enrich the lives, land and economy of North Carolinians.

Our FoodCorps Service Member, Horticulture Agent, 4-H Agent, and Extended Food and Nutrition Education Progammer (EFNEP), all work to provide nutrition education to children through school gardens. Our team has used gardens for programming at South Warren Elementary School, Mariam Boyd Elementary School, and Warren County High School. 

Luther College Gardens and Farms

 Luther College is proud to produce local foods in several on- and off-campus locations. Student workers tend to our production gardens over the summer. We also have two on-campus edible landscapes, a "Walk Around the World" diversity garden and an Edible Landscape near Valders Hall of Science. We also host several community garden plots near our production gardens and have residence hall gardens at both Norby House and the Sustainability House.

 

We have donated produce to the Food Pantry and also host on-campus Salad Bowl Days and produce giveaways.

Con Sabor

The program presents Cuban recipes, using local products. It shows traditional and current Cuban cuisine, with information about the healthy cook. We present many materials related with botanical and cultural characteristics of many edible plants, in order to show the rich biodiversity of them. There are some messages about the relation between food production and environment. It has a deep educational purpose.

Convivia La Habana-Germinal

Slow Food Cuba joins projects linked to the production and consumption of food related to human health and environment preservation. These groups are linked to several Cuban institutions that lead the processes of sustainable feeding. They linked different fields such as education, health, production, storage and consumption of food, agroecology, permaculture, renewable energy and food culture. We have worked in an integrated way. We also have collaborated with the University of Gastronomic Sciences in Turin and other university projects.
