About the Program:

The students at Wilshire Park Elementary School love the garden; they till soil, search for larvae, admire spiders, and plant foods such as potatoes, watermelon, and spinach. However, due to a period of trouble-shooting issues with the water supply at the school, many plants have died or are failing to mature. With the Whole Kids Foundation grant, our goal is to upgrade their garden into a healthy, flourishing environment full of abundant plant life. With further investment, we will assist the school in transforming their garden into an outdoor beautiful classroom that the students can enjoy to its full extent. By growing a garden in an educative setting, students will not only witness first-hand the miracles of life sprouting from the earth, but also learn about the associated scientific, nutritional and environmental impact. Our overall goal is to encourage children to ask more questions about their world by inspiring them with the small things most take for granted everyday: our food!
