About the Program:

Our small by-the-sea garden provides an outdoor educational experience for our preK - grade 8 students. We encompass science, art, english, maths, history, nutrition and much more in our vegetable and herb garden. Our sensory garden adds an extra element for the children. In our meditation corner we encourage peaceful minds and hearts to dwell in the garden. Here we use stories and songs to teach our students about the environment and provide a quiet reading place.

We encourage the children to take responsibility of their garden by encouraging them to maintain the worm bin, compost their left overs, weed, recycle and pick up trash. They plant and harvest various vegetables and learn how to keep the garden an attractive place for beneficial animals whilst using safe methods to rid it of harmful ones. We regularly provide the children with the proceeds from their garden to eat and educate them about the nutritional values of their plants and how to harvest, clean and serve their food.

Our program is run completely by parent volunteers with the generous support of our school.
