About the Program:

The White Rock Montessori (WRM) Discovery Garden Program offers an outdoor classroom that opens doors to learning, enabling children to discover the true value of organic farming and the benefits of living close to nature. At WRM, opportunities abound for students to receive a whole and balanced education. Environmental studies are integrated into a variety of areas in the student’s daily work. Once the children step outside they are encouraged to engage in hands-on environmental work: creating and constructing vital structures, preparing, planting and harvesting organic vegetable crops, cultivating native plant gardens for wildlife habitats, caring for chickens, ducks and pygmy goats, up-cycling projects, and water quality testing in the school’s section of Ash Creek. These outdoor activities promote skills acquisition, self confidence and discovery of the wonders of their natural world. This is accomplished on their own terms, safely and effectively.
