About the Program:

The goal of our garden project is to continue with the next step on the journey of creating a school garden. Last year we were contacted by a group of Master Gardeners. They wanted to team up with our school and provide education and experience in gardening to a group of students and they were become Junior Master Gardeners. We had a special spot to develop into a school garden. We contacted our local high school shop class and they were able to build us raised planter beds at a very reasonable cost. The gardening class began and as the students began to learn about soil and the needs of a garden, the area was not fit for the garden.

We then began a junior engineering class with our 4th grade students and a local engineering firm, Wade Trim Engineering to determine what we could do to develop the area to be the garden we had planned. The students were able to review blue prints, measure areas and design what would be a garden that all students could enjoy.

Getting the garden ready we realized would cost a good bit of money. After teaming with some local companies we were able to excavate the area, provide drainage and purchase fresh soil to get the area ready. We also prepared a path in the garden that will allow students, and guests to enjoy the area.
