About the Program:

Our gardens goal is to raise edible vegetables and herbs. In the process we are educating our students on the process of how food begins as a seed, grows, and ends up in the grocery store. We want our students to know that food can be grown locally and not just boxed or canned and in the grocery store. We are teaching them about the work that goes into raising a garden such as weeding, planting, watering. We want to teach them healthy habits such as eating fresh organic vegetables and herbs. We are also fostering a sense of community, as our garden is maintained by more than one classroom and we work together as a community to ensure the success of our crops. We would like to enlarge our garden so that we may be able to grow more crops. We also need to redo our watering system as it is an older system donated by a family from our school community. Our box gardens need to be rebuilt and we would like to replace it with more fertile soil.
