About the Program:

The Trust for Public Land is a national nonprofit organization that conserves land and creates parks for people. The Trust for Public Land's Bay Area Team is starting a Green Schoolyards Program in partnership with Oakland Unified School District and several community-based organizations that focus on the multiple benefits that green schoolyards bring to education and the environment. We aim to convert asphalt schoolyards to green schoolyards with nature-based outdoor education and play areas, vegetable gardening spaces, shade trees, native plant landscaping, and stormwater infrastructure. We will engage students, teachers parents, and the greater school community in the design, construction, and stewardship of these green schoolyards. We will focus our efforts on disadvantaged communities in the City of Oakland, and aim to develop systems to expand the program and make it replicable.
