About the Program:

Our mission at Treadwell Middle School is to teach, every day. Period. Over the past year, we have successfully forged a community alliance that has allowed us to renovate neglected outdoor areas of our campus, instilling pride in our students and neighborhood while teaching kids about horticulture, teamwork and pride in doing a job well. Receiving the Whole Kids/Food Corps grant would allow us to reach our goal of continuing our momentum, by taking the teaching and learning experience to a whole new level. By creating recognition of the farm to table chain, we can focus on nutrition and educate our students about ways they can make healthy choices. One of our goals for this project is to instill enough interest in nutritional gardening that students will want to garden on their own, at home or in a community garden, and perhaps develop a lifelong and/or career interest in horticulture. We also strive to use sustainable gardening practices that are eco-friendly and easy to implement.
